Out of the way place that looks like a double wide! What a surprise. Not fancy is an understatement. But the food I'd great. Fried clam strips are the star here. But the Maine Lobsters are great too. Great side dishes! Cole slaw, home fried onion...More

We happened upon this place on one of our day trips and were so glad we did. Order the clam strip boat and you won't be disappointed We weren't deterred by their cash only rule as we were able to scrounge enough for our bill...More

This is fresh New England seafood at its best other than being on the New England shore. Placed in the middle of pretty much no where it is worth the drive from anywhere! They are family owned and make everything themselves; cole slaw, hush puppies,...More

Stopped by for lunch at Essex 2 because of being recommended by friends. I had a very mediocre lobster sandwich on a hamburger bun. The lobster had no flavor and too much lettuce and not much lobster. My husband had clams with bellies that he...More

The restaurant itself is a little more than a hole in the wall but the food is worth the drive. Fried full belly clams are the best. We also had the grilled scallops. Can highly recommend. Remember that it is cash only. So bring cash...More

Returned to Essex for the whole belly clams & we never disappointed. Even though the menu has whole belly clam dinner, the clam boat is quite filling. Also suggest the New England clam chowder. Very authentic!

Love the seafood every time we go there. It is about a 2 hour drive for us, but worth every minute for authentic New England seafood. Wish there was more room and better restrooms, but the food is the best.

Essex House, formerly Essex II after the original in Glouster, Mass. Even tho new owners, good food reminds me of the Cape.

I'm not really sure as we were there for an early lunch. Been going there for years, and sorry to say that I don't think their food is that great anymore. Very dried up fried items. Hope you have better luck.
