Under the oaks sits this amazing rustic, funky Florida restaurant and live music venue. Fresh seafood abounds, such as the famed Blackened Grouper Rueben, as seen on the Travel Channel's "Best Sandwich in America". Other eats include Smoked Gator Ribs and Snow Crab Legs. Picnic tables greet you as you take in the terrific live music six nights a week,... More

Wanted to try this restaurant for weeks after seeing it on a episode of man vs food. The outside wasn't very appealing like an episode from Duck Dynasty; stray cats in the parking lot. But sometimes holes in the wall make the best places. The inside was interesting as well. Glad we came in the winter because it seems like... More

Grouper Rueben was one of their speciality sandwiches that turned out to be pretty good. The beans and rice could had been seasoned a little better- a little bland. The atmosphere was rustic which made you feel like you were dining in an old "cracker " restaurant. Apparently, this is a good place for live music and adult fun. I... More

This place has a sort of funky dive type atmosphere and apparently they have live music sometimes at night but we were there at lunch on a Tuesday. Choose it because hubby wanted smoked mullet on his first trip to Tampa. We are from Louisiana and know what good food is supposed to be like. It did not disappoint. We... More

Visited Skippers for British Invasion #2. 17 bands starting at 6:00pm. A lot of people there. Beautiful night weather-wise. With some friends. Quality of bands varied greatly. My favorites "Scott Elliott". Also "Glad All Over". I left after this band. Fun!!!! Tried the "#1 grouper Rueben in the USA". It was really good. Kitchen a little overwhelmed but staff were... More

Ordered the Mahi Mahi platter at $16.99. The fish was rubbery, the steamed vegetables were mushy, the hush puppies were hard and the rice and beans flavorless. To top off an already bad meal my tea was never refilled and the server accidentally dropped salad dressing in my hair.

Went to SS to see Sarah Jarosz perform.Grabbed a quick bite before the show while we waited. Standard fare of Smoked meats and seafood steamed, grilled or fried. We didn't go for the food, so it was really an afterthought. However, both of the sandwiches we got were pretty good and not overly priced. If we get to another show,... More

Overpriced seafood, not prepared well, but entertainment is top notch and love the outdoor venue. Super casual, super fun, nice staff too. I love casual FL atmosphere, paper plates, flip flops and a cold beer, what more could you ask for? There are a couple of items that were featured on the food network, but I did not try them,... Always a good time with friends, Dinner is delicious. Drinks are reasonable. The dinning area appears like to dirty spoon restaurante. The service is good, and the meals are plentiful, Very casual atmosphere.

Description
Now celebrating 34 smokin' years, this venerable Tampa Bay landmark was purchased by three Air Force buddies in 1980 who met while stationed in Alaska and presumably sought to get as far away from the frozen tundra as possible. In the years since, Skipper's has grown from a small smokehouse takeout operation with a casual Sunday jam to a full-service restaurant and much-loved purveyor of world-class music. The architecture is a smorgasbord of "cracker" and islandy-Key West styles with overturned boats, wooden walkways, large murals dot the landscape while artfully rusted walls contain the sounds of revelry. In the Oyster Bar, a vintage moonshine still hangs over the bar while in the dining room, weathered posters tinted by neon lights add varying hues of color and atmosphere.
