I love this restaurant. The ambience is relaxed and elegant. The servers/bartends are never in a hurry, but you never feel like you are waiting for anything. The decor is clean and contemporary. The cocktails are interesting.....the food is outstanding. We like to sit at the bar to dine, starting with cocktails, and fresh New England oysters before jumping to... More

Decided to stop into coffee and desserts section of the restaurant! There was only 2 other patrons in there besides us and the staff was very slow. They were busier talking to each other than paying attention to the customers! I got a hot tea, which they had to ask 3 times what I wanted and then never offered cream... More

I was meeting some friends for a holiday lunch. I agreed to Cakes & Ale because we recently read their dinning room was now serving lunch. They are no longer serving lunch in the dinning room and only serve lunch in the Bakery. The Bakery is cute but very small. Service was good. My $14.00 grain bowl was very good,... More

Wow. While on business in Atlanta, I met a friend who lives in Decatur for dinner here. It was lovely. Cocktails may not be a strong suit here but the wine list is good. The food was great. We started with snacks of roasted almonds with rosemary and fresh olives: both delicious. We split the gnocchi: wonderful pillows of goodness... More

I came here with a friend and we were both delighted with the very special and delicious dinner we had, including great service. We shared all courses except dessert which was a perfect decision. We started off with the crispy arrancini, then had the quail and then the seabass with the creamy polenta on the side. It was a feast!... More

Dinner was awesome. We started with the squash (with pomegranate) dip. Delicious. The entrees were good but nothing spectacular- two of us had the roasted chicken and the other had the pork. Maybe next time we will go for one of the seafood entrees. So, for the awesomeness-1, Heather provided great service AND 2, the sticky toffee pudding. This became... More

Absolutely perfect meal for our anniversary. The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable, food was fantastic and the wine choices complemented the meal perfectly. Dessert was amazing as well as the coffee. My wife said that it was the best meal she has had in years... that comment, on our anniversary, was worth the price. Thank you Cakes and Ale!

With the great reviews of this restaurant, my team and myself expected more. Perhaps their food gets better later in the day after the lunch time rush. When we entered around 11:45am, we were seated near the inspection scorecard and became alarmed at their score which almost made us leave. He violations didn't appear to be anything horrible so we... My date and I ate here twice as we waited out Hurricane Matthew. I enjoy the reasonable serving sizes, excellent preparation and service. Our first visit was great with excellent espresso and a breakfast sandwich and bagel with smoked trout. Inexplicably on our second visit, they were out of breakfast sandwiches and the espresso was not nearly as tasty.

This was my first dining experience at Cakes and Ale, although my dining partners have enjoyed this restaurant many times before. Our meal was Simply Outstanding! 2 of us, had the Grouper , apparently a new menu item. It was to die for. The other entree was the Lamb Shoulder, which was excellent. The starters , desert and bread service... More

Description
A "true foodie find" in Downtown Decatur, chef-owner Billy Allin's American "separates itself" from the usual culinary scene with "fresh", "vivacious" food that "epitomizes the farm-to-table movement", plus "unrivaled" cocktails in a refined, "unassuming" setting.
