Had a nice time sampling middle eastern cuisine at Ishtar restaurant. The hummus and falafel were very good. Lentil soup was delicious. Everything was uniquely spiced and delicious that we tried. Service is slow but food is worth the wait. Good place to try something different.

The food at Ishtar is good, just do not go there to eat if you need to be anywhere anytime soon. It will be awhile before they take your order and it will be even longer before the food arrives. The food is good though, especially the bread that comes with the hummus. Yummy.

Good food, but it should be more authentic and has a variety of old Iraqi food. The market is kinda more expensive than other markets, but still you will find what you want. They need to redecorate the restaurant.

We went again after a long absence. I had memories of fantastic food and large portions. However, the portion size has declined. Still good food and a good value but not as great as it was before. The bread is the best bread in the valley. Sometimes they are stingy with it though. The bread is for sale at the... More

This is a wonderful restaurant and marketplace! I drop in at least two or three times per week to purchase ingredients for my Lebanese dishes along with the fresh bread for 40 cents. The family that owns it is very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend them. 5 Stars!

We live in a small town with no ethnic restaurants and when we visit boise we are always searching for something special. This was a great departure from our usual Indian or Thai selections. The portions were big. We had the chicken kebab which was nicely seasoned with a strong cardamom undertone and the chicken shwarma and lamb kebab were... More

The owner is an Iraqi so I thought it would be a authentic middle eastern restaurant. I rushed in there for the kabobs which I missed from Iraqi restaurants in England but I was disappointed. It was very dry, the lamb/beef compress was just two tiny strips and a tiny squirt of sauce. The baklava was so soaked in honey... More

I had heard great things about Ishtar, specifically the baba ganouj. I sat down and we ordered three plates: chicken kabob, chicken schwarma, and falafel. I was impressed with th chicken, and the falafel, and the baklava, but not the hummouse and baba ganouj, nor the way the menu explained how things would be served. The baba ganouj and hummous... In my humble opinion, the best middle eastern food in Boise. Authentic! Tucked into the strip mall by the Country Club dollar theater off Overland, this unassuming market and restaurant are easy to overlook. The dining area is small, casual and plain, and probably the only place in Boise you can watch Al Jazeera over dinner - so there is... More
