We went there with a family visiting from China. You never know is it authentic or Americanized Chinese food. This is as authentic as it gets per our friends. We ordered several dishes and shared them all. We had egg drop soup that had a touch of chicken broth and corn in it. A bit different but added flavor depth... More

This restaurant is one of my favorite restaurants in Chinatown. I think the chef from Lao Yu Ju switched over to here because I recognize a lot of the dishes and they are quite good.

I introduced my friends to Lao Beijing but ending with a big disappointment. The waiter kept asking us to repeat the order, it took a long time to serve the food, and finally the food is getting more worse than before, the service was bad, and then, i knew why there is less and less customers in their restaurant.

I have had Peking duck in probably five restaurants in Chicago and 25-30 nationwide. This is the best Peking duck that I have ever had. It can be served in the traditional three course manner or in the now (somewhat unfortunately) more common single course manner.

Hidden away in a rundown pedestrian mall with insufficient parking. Can't even tell which restaurant you're entering; each one has multiple unmarked doors. Once inside, the decor was unimpressive. Seating is close together, chairs are too low for the tables. Our table was unsteady. We were a party of 7, so we tried several entrees and appetizers. Everything was pretty... More

Yes, I am from Northern part of China and I love the food here in Lao Beijing. Our family visited it a lot and love it.

No longer one of Tony Hu's restaurants, Lao Beijing continues to be a good option in Chinatown, but not, perhaps, one of the best. I have had some good noodle dishes here, and fine seafood choices as well. The menu lacks the imagination and breadth of some of Chinatown's finest, but this remains a better-than-average choice with authentic Beijing style... More

Three dishes ordered: one was inedible, two others just not good. Not a place you'd even bother to order in from. Tea was nice though

My son wanted to go to China town so I did some research online looking for a place that served Szechuan food and ended up choosing Lao Bejing based on a number of reviews. Let hits the three areas; décor, food and service. Décor. Well, it’s not that its bad it’s just that it’s nothing special and it feels like... More

Located in Chinatown square, we selected this restaurant on a whim. There are many places to eat while visiting here and I'm sure they are all pretty good. Lao Beijing turned out to be an excellent choice. For starters they bring out a plate of spiced cabbage and it is really spicy, but very addicting...and of course the hot tea.... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown may be one of Chicago’s smallest neighborhoods geographically, but it's big on character, colors, sights, sounds, and flavors. In this South Side neighborhood, you’ll find authentic Chinese restaurants dotting the length of Wentworth Avenue. After a meal of dim sum, noodles, duck or other tantalizing food specialties, satiate your visual appetite with dozens of public art sculptures sprinkled throughout the neighborhood ranging from animal structures to pagodas, a tile mosaic, Chinatown Gate, and a Buddhist Temple.
