The food was very good here. Warm, inviting atmosphere with attentive service. Small but pleasing wine list. Dessert was absolutely delicious. It's the kind of place, that, if I lived in the South Loop, I could see as becoming a regular spot for me.

We were a harried party of three looking for respite from a long day at conference and found it in Gioco. An inviting atmosphere of brick and dark wood with an open kitchen. We started by sharing a Burrata. The preparation was very simple, oil and basil leaf. Wonderfully fresh flavor and a promising start tot he meal. My wife... More

Gioco offers a variety of Italian specialties, in an inviting atmosphere of dark woods and drape curtains. Too many great dishes to list, but I am partial to the way they prepare beets.

last minute needed a table at 7 on Christmas Eve, not an easy find, and wanted it to be dining, not just eating a quick meal. Had always noticed this spot in the south loop and they were not busy, so made a reservation and headed over. We were greeted more than warmly, shown to a very nice table and... More

Was in town before heading to the notre dame game and hitting up the art institute and the field museum. I arrived around 530 and the place was quiet with great atmosphere. My server was friendly and pleasant and suggested the meatball appetizer which i was skeptical of because it said it had raisins in it but turned out to... More

We came with friends who live nearby. It was this past Saturday night and it was full- we were fortunate we had reservations. I had the pasta with seafood, which came wrapped in aluminum foil and paper. My wife had the fish special. All 5 of us were very happy with the old building atmosphere, service and food, which all... Our family, who lives in Chicago, has made Gioco one of their restaurants of choice. They live nearby and suggested we (all 10 ten of us) dine out prior to tomorrow's Thanksgiving celebration. We were glad they did! With valet, parking was no problem. We were greeted and seated promptly and our waiter, Hector and his team, didn't miss a beat... More

In Chicago for a 3 night stay and really wanted a great Italian dinner. Couldn't have been more pleased. Food was excellent, the old speakeasy atmosphere was great, and our server was attentive and fast.

Great restaurant with really good food and ambiance. I was so excited that Prosecco was $5 on the nite we went (Sun)! Party of 6 and we all enjoyed our dinner selections.

Restaurant was under-patronized as befitted a cold Monday evening in late October. Nonetheless the daily specials were numerous, carefully thought out and extremely well prepared. Service was attentive, but unobtrusive. Food was wonderful.

Gioco pioneered the retail development of the South Loop when it opened in September of 1999. The restaurant has been a mainstay in the neighborhood as other restaurants and stores have opened up over the years. Gioco is located in an historic building built in 1890 and is one of the few remaining buildings in Chicago from that era. The Gioco space features the original old brick and plaster walls, an old wooden walk-in cooler and a walk-in safe built into the wall, used by the Chicago gangsters (Al Capone, Frank Nitti, George "Bugs" Moran and Earl "Hymie" Weiss ) for one of the gambling and/or brothel houses that dominated the area in the early 1900s. Designer Jerry Kleiner designed Gioco restaurant to retain these old world elements and to feature them in his modernization of the space.
