This used to be a great place.....had the best Cape Cod chowder outside the cape itself. And the seafood dishes used to be supreme. Ah, well.....it's hard to keep places going.....let's see what it gets replaced with....come Drake Hotel....you can do lots better.

a longtime chicago institution is closing later this week, While many have fond memories of eating here, the current offerings do not measure up. Nice atmosphere, just ok food.

Located on the ground floor of the Drake Hotel at the corner of Michigan Ave. and E. Lake Shore Drive, The Cape Cod Room has been an iconic restaurant since 1933. It would be great to say that it was as good as it was, but things have suffered here, even since the last time that we were here in... More

We wanted to say Good Bye to the old world elegance and quiet sophistication of the (in)famous Cape Cod Room, which I first visited 40- years ago. We only had drinks prepared by the craft bartender, who also sadly reminisced w us about the permanent closing ( so Channel can have more space ). However, he said there is a... More

The oysters rockerfeller were luke warm and my scallps were average. Maybe because they are closing their doors soon they really don't care anymore. Hope they put something exciting and delicious in it's place.

I wouldn't say our December final experience was as good as past memories. They were sold out of most reasonable bottles of wine, the bread basket is not as fresh (or warm) as before nor probably baked in-house these days, service was spotty, but nostalgia brought us back for a good (but not excellent) dinner. The Bookbinder soup was outstanding!... More

First, the bad news: The Cape Cod Room, the iconic restaurant in Chicago's Drake Hotel that has been satisfying customers from Babe Ruth to Gary Cooper to Clark Gable to Spencer Tracy to Mickey Mantle for 83 years, will be closed after his final serving on December 31. It is part of the Drake's renovation project. We are told that... More

The Cape Cod Room in Chicago's iconic Drake Hotel used to be our favorite place for Saturday lunch. Every Saturday. We ordereed the signature Bookbinder's red snapper soup and the scrod with au gratin potatoes. Then, one day, we discovered scrod had been removed from the menu. We found another restaurant for Saturday lunch. But recently we learned that things... More

This was one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago but unfortunately it has gone down like the Drake Hotel where it is located. It used to be open for lunch and now it is only open for dinner and it is not the same as it used to be. I guess the only reason to go is to have their... More

The atmosphere alone would get a 5 star rating from me. It truly felt like we went back in time! The staff could not have been any friendlier or attentive! And the food was outstanding! Be sure to stop at the bar when you're there to see the initials of Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe carved in the bar top!!

Description
The Cape Cod, a much honored seafood restaurant, boasts of fresh seafood from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, from the lakes and freshwater streams. It has been consistently named as one of America's finest dining spots since opening in 1933. Zagat's consumer survey also picked the Cape Cod as a top hotel restaurant. It was recently inducted by Nation's Restaurant News into the Fine Dining Hall of Fame. Located on the arcade level, the cozy restaurant, established in 1933 is decked with nautical paraphernalia. Nautical themed, wooden beams, hanging copper pots and stuffed sailfish adorn the room, walls and ceiling of this immensely popular restaurant. Reservations are very strongly recommended.
