The Cape Cod Room in Chicago's iconic Drake Hotel used to be our favorite place for Saturday lunch. Every Saturday. We ordereed the signature Bookbinder's red snapper soup and the scrod with au gratin potatoes. Then, one day, we discovered scrod had been removed from the menu. We found another restaurant for Saturday lunch. But recently we learned that things... More

This was one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago but unfortunately it has gone down like the Drake Hotel where it is located. It used to be open for lunch and now it is only open for dinner and it is not the same as it used to be. I guess the only reason to go is to have their... More

The atmosphere alone would get a 5 star rating from me. It truly felt like we went back in time! The staff could not have been any friendlier or attentive! And the food was outstanding! Be sure to stop at the bar when you're there to see the initials of Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe carved in the bar top!!

Their advertising on the awning caught my eye and I was pleasantly surprised by the historic décor and the up to date seafood presentations. We had grouper and lobster tail, both excellent but the flavor of the cheddar grits is not to be missed! They really do have the best seafood in Chicago!

This high-end restaurant in the marvelous Drake Hotel has a deserved reputation as one of Chicago's best seafood eateries -- at least in terms of the quality and creativity of its menu. But for my wife and me it felt too enclosed and slightly musty. The lighting and decor seem designed to convey the feeling of dining in the quarters... More

Like stepping back in time to the classy, debonair "where tablecloth" restaurants of the 50's & 60's, The Cape Cod Room was the highlight of our weekend in Chicago. It's a cozy, quiet restaurant with a nautical theme tucked into a corner of the Drake Hotel building. Great service from bartender, Steve, who also showed us where Joe DiMaggio carved... More

Soaking wet & quite disheveled from high winds and rain (Chicago weather scoffs at umbrellas), I arrived at the restaurant on a Wednesday evening without reservations. The host was gracious & promptly found me a nice table even though they were somewhat busy. Ambiance is dark wood (I sat near the beam with "Scott Jacobsen" carved into it-- forgot to... More

Still one of my most favorite restaurants in the whole world. I start dreaming of Dover Sole weeks before I get to the city and it is always as good as I expect it to be. They have wonderful sea food and you can't go wrong with any of the menu items but the Sole is something special.

For a taste of what made Chicago restaurants famous in the 1930s through 1970s, there is no place like the Cape Cod Room and its Whitefish, Catch of the Day or Crab Cake with a side of a Hasselback Potato with Root Vegetables. Even the wait staff is traditional in its behavior and serving skill. It's also quiet and can... More

Situated within the historic Drake hotel the Cape Cod provides an excellent seafood menu in an intimate environment...but it's not cheap! We had oysters and devilled lobster eggs as starters followed by Cape Cod seafood boil and roquefort crusted NY strip steak as mains. All good but the Roquefort crust did rather overpower the steak. Waiting staff knew their stuff... More

The Cape Cod, a much honored seafood restaurant, boasts of fresh seafood from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, from the lakes and freshwater streams. It has been consistently named as one of America's finest dining spots since opening in 1933. Zagat's consumer survey also picked the Cape Cod as a top hotel restaurant. It was recently inducted by Nation's Restaurant News into the Fine Dining Hall of Fame. Located on the arcade level, the cozy restaurant, established in 1933 is decked with nautical paraphernalia. Nautical themed, wooden beams, hanging copper pots and stuffed sailfish adorn the room, walls and ceiling of this immensely popular restaurant. Reservations are very strongly recommended.
