Get a drink at Pippin's next door and order food from Downtown Dogs! Awesome food! I had the Polish sausage. So good! Cool location.

Today I tried the Saturday special. Char sausage dog Chicago style (sans peppers). I liked it and I really enjoyed the french fries that came with it (drinks were extra).

It's just a hot dog, but the local experience makes it taste so much better. The hot dog was a quality dog on a poppy seed bun. The fries were thicker and greasy just waiting for some salt and vinegar. The pickle slices were crips. WhT really nailed it was sitting in the chilled April air watching all the walkers.... More

No one wants tablecloths with a Chicago Dog. No, you want a cramped little place with a narrow bar looking out on the street and killer good dogs. Look no farther, Downtown Dogs is all that.

While there is no such thing as a bad Chicago style hotdog, Downtown Dogs needs to up their game. I had a Charred Polish with everything and an order of fries. The Polish was one of the smaller versions that I have ever had, with a minimal char that lacked any snap. While my needs for a dog were met,... More

My husband and I love a good Chicago dog. You'd think with Indianapolis being so close to Chicago it wouldn't be hard to find one close to home. These were delicious and exactly what we were craving! We both got the Monday special--Downtown Dog with a side of fries. Both of us had our meals gone in under five minutes.... More

Stumbled across the downtown dog while walking through Chicago. Had to stop in. The dogs were a great introduction to the classic Chicago style dog. Watch out for the double dog, it slippery and tough to eat. The shop itself is a hole in the wall and could have been cleaner. Friendly staff. Overall glad we did it for the... More

Very popular with lots of choices, but no veggie dog. They aren't particularly special, and the fries tasted like frozen shoestring fries, certainly not "to die for" as claimed in recent review

Not only are the hot dogs the best ever. The fries are to die for! Plus my kids love the inside, it has pictures and videos of dogs!!!!

Neighbourhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
