This is the original location. It is located under Michigan Ave, on the streets below. It was famous, before, SNL. Decent eats, at a good price. Simple decor, kinda run down. But you go here for the history of Billy Goats. Many people visit here, including celebrities and sports players. Go just for the fun of it too.

Finding the Billy Goat is no easy feat. You take a stairwell down from the north west side of the Michigan Avenue bridge which crosses the Chicago River (there's a tiny sign stuck onto the stairwell entrance). The bar is just past the bottoms of the stairs and it feels like it was decorated in circa 1971. The walls are... More

Took my family here during a trip to the city. I have been many times but my kids and wife have never been. Like everyone in the area I felt its something they should all experience. Food isn't great but is far from terrible. No gourmet burgers here! Decent quality food and not terribly expensive. No fries chips!

To be frank, we were disappointed. We'd heard it was tops; and it has huge character and history; but where does 'basic' step over into an unclean dive? The cheeseboigers were fine but not best ever. Choice of beers poor. Staff attitude 'left something to be desired' I would not go back.

You come here for the schtick! Try it. You're on lower Wacker. Get a borger (or grilled cheese in my case), a beer, and chips. It's scary, you know there are rats all over next door. It's CHICAGO! Mike Royko used to write about this place. It has history. Suck it up and take the kids. Hey you rotten posh... More

We stumbled upon this place while waiting for the architecture boat cruise and ended up coming back here to eat. It's a fairly straightforward burger joint, albeit with oodles of Americana to boot. The atmosphere is pleasant and the beer/ quickly-served food (i.e. cheeseburgers) is cheap for the Magnificent Mile. Upmarket it ain't, but if you like bars with a... More

We read about Billy Goat’s Tavern (and its myths) in our Rough Guide. Couldn’t find it on the first day, but it turned out to be under the Magnificent Mile instead of on it. Burgers were good and the whole place felt very local. Make sure to check out the newspaper articles on the tavern – the walls are covered... More

No nonsense Burger joint, I had a double cheeseburger, cooked on the spot in minutes, add your own onions, pickles etc, very tasty indeed, though they don't do fries which was a bit strange though.
