So I love the James Hotel, but was unimpressed by this restaurant. We came here for lunch and dinner because we were staying in the hotel, and I realllly wanted to love it. For lunch we had the steak burger and chicken club. They were ok. The fries were really good though. For dinner, the saving grace were the oysters... More

Came here by coincidence and wasn't disappointed. Tried the Southside Filet with Mac n Cheese & Vegetables sides which were all excellent. Also loved their take on a white chocolate creme brûlée. Service was prompt and the waiter very attentive. Probably not THE best steakhouse in Chicago, but certainly in the higher ranks. Would definitely recommend it.

One of the higher rated steak houses in the area that surprised us with walk in accommodations for a two at 630. The place did fill up pretty quickly after we were seated. Our server was excellent. He knew the menu and was very helpful with wine/beer selections. He even brought my colleague three glasses of red to try. As... More

Had dinner here in the past and it was excellent, with the changing of hands, no more David Burke, the restaurants menu has declined. Steak are still dry aged and tasty but the general atmosphere and changes to the menu are not improvements. We visited on a Saturday night and while most tables filled by the time we left, it... The Steakhouse is located at the ground floor of the James Hotel. The location is nice, but not outstanding. The lightening is quite dark and the noise extremely high. I had a dinner for one with 6 oysters (which were the smallest on I ever had in my life), then a beef tournedos with potatoes. The meat was very, very... More

One of the worst steaks I have ever had in my life. The 40 day aged ribeye was tough as a shoe and tasteless, even though it was cooked correctly to medium rare. This restaurant should not be in business.

I think this is a steakhouse that has been in the area for a while. The decor is nothing to write home about but the dry aged steaks are the best I ever had. Primehouse has several choices for dry aging - 28, 40, 55 and 75 day. The longer the aging, the more flavor and the more price. What's... More

It's certainly difficult to serve the best steaks in Chicago but I think the Primehouse at the James Hotel gets there. The meat is dry aged on site in a salt cellar and the results are world class. We tried the 40 day rib eye and the 35 day Kansas strip and were highly impressed. Can't wait to try the... More

A very nice old school steak house. Caesar salad is prepared table side and is very good. The uniquely aged beef varieties are excellent and grilled. It has a full wine list to fit all tastes and price ranges. The service is pleasant and efficient. This restaurant is priced accordingly with other top ranked steak houses.

Every time I am in Chicago I go to Primehouse. The bartenders are some of the best in the city, so I usually eat at the bar. It always an outstanding meal and a great time.

Description
Primehouse in The James Hotel features a modern steakhouse menu with hand-picked meats that are dry-aged for 28 to 75 days in a Himalayan salt-tiled aging room on premise. An intimate destination for special gatherings, the Private Dining Room is a noteworthy addition to the steakhouse. Conceived as a modern interpretation of the classic "chef's table" meant for private dining, it serves to complement the progressive fare. #1 Steakhouse in Chicago by Chicago magazine, Best Burger in the U.S. by Food & Wine, Best Steakhouses in the U.S. by USA Today.
