We visited with family for my partners birthday on a Sunday. We tried the roast beef and lamb and I'll be honest, this was the best roast dinner I've ever had. We've eaten her before on other days and all the food is beautiful but the roast dinner was insane. The manager, waiting staff and chef were all very welcoming and ensure we had everything we needed. Very happy with our experience!!

Stopped in last minute and staff were so accommodating of our party which was on the larger side! Food was absolutely gorgeous and the atmosphere was brilliant, staff were all so friendly and seemed like they actually enjoyed being at work which was lovely to see, and we even had the chef (who was also lovely!) come and check in to see if everything was okay for us which was a really nice touch. We'd definitely return if we were in the area again!

We went for my daughters 40th birthday there was 6 adults and 4 children . We had a upstairs room which you can either go up the stairs or there us a lift . The food was excellent and the staff were so lovely . I would highly recommend the Sunday lunches from chicken beef or lamb, everything was hot and the gravy was lovely not your watery type . I would highly recommend the trifle for dessert . They must have a excellent chief as it was one of the best meals I have had for a long time . They even have a little zoo which my grandchildren loved you can even rent out a lodge there . I will be going g back very soon .

We travelled here largely for the zoo which is wonderful, some really lovely bird species in particular. All the animals looked happy and healthy and the whole site was very clean.
We thought we'd pop in to try the attached pub afterwards. Unfortunately the menu consisted of 1 vegetarian item, a £16 vegetable curry. The waitress also tried to offer a pasta dish minus the meat. The pub menu felt very dated and not accomodating for dietary requirements so we quickly left and had a lovely meal elsewhere.
We are local so will likely visit the zoo again but will just leave a donation instead of using the pub.

If I'd written this review after we visited on Saturday then I would have given them 5 stars since the food was excellent and the staff friendly and attentive even though it was very busy. It was so good, we booked to go back the following Thursday. The first problem was that the menu was different (we hadn't been warned of this when we booked) but we did manage to find stuff we fancied. We ordered venison cooked rare but what we got was medium at best, so we sent it back. The chef agreed that it wasn't rare. The replacement took an age to arrive although we were the only couple in the restaurant. That was slightly better cooked but my wife's meat was solid in parts and inedible. The staff were gossiping at the bar but we did manage to attract their attention eventually to complain. They did at least accept there was a problem and reduced the bill. Such a wide variation in service should not happen in a well run establishment even if it is different staff on some nights - it was as if it was a different pub entirely.

Very poor service on this visit unfortunately. Food arrived very late (didn’t feel like eating it when it arrived as it was so late), had to ask for cutlery and napkins. When we spoke to staff about our experience, we got a very unconvincing sorry.
Food was okay but menu hasn’t changed in a year!
Think it’s gone downhill since they expanded, giving their accommodation guests priority over their faithful customers. This used to be our ‘go to’ restaurant for a special occasion but we will now have to think again as I had a very disappointing birthday.

They fit me in last minute right after kitchen closed, very friendly and kind. I was very thankful after such a long day and traffic. Wonderful pub. Highchairs available for little ones and overflow parking available if parking lot is full. I ordered chicken curry with rice as well as hot chocolate, making sure to tell them I am gluten-free. You can pay by cash or card. Outdoor and indoor seating. They also own an inn next door - I didn't stay there so I cannot review it. I felt comfortable in the pub part of the establishment that I wouldn't mind giving the inn a try in the future.

We booked the deal. Dinner bed and breakfast to celebrate my friends birthday. It was lovely to stay at the Sleeping Giant Hotel, the old school has been turned into a wonderful modern fully equipped hotel in such a beautiful village at the heat of the Brecon Beacons. The Service from the staff was first class and the food was beautifully prepared and thoroughly enjoyed by the both of us. Clean plates and full stomachs. Thankyou we will be back

After a walk down to Henrhyd Falls and along Nant Llech we were ready for our lunch. We searched beforehand for a pub that allows the dog to join us and a menu with a few vegetarian options and ended up here.
Being a little hungry we shared some Brie to start, this would be a mistake, not because of the quality but because the mains were so big we struggled to finish them, but being troopers we carried on.
For our mains I went with the classic Fish and Chips and my partner went for a Vegetarian Curry, both presented well and made with quality ingredients and as I say large portions, it probably didnt help that we also had a side of Garlic Bread as well.
After a bit of time to breath we decided to share a Waffle as a dessert, obviously it was great and a perfect way to finish a great meal. With our meal we had four soft drinks and in total it came to £72.00, not cheap, but as they say you get what you pay for.
The pub/restaurant is a lovely cosey place from a casual lounge area with settees to the little restaurant area, both look very clean, tidy and welcoming. Then we go outside and theres the mini zoo, bizarre but a lovely little walk around to see the cranes, meerkats and goats, perfect for a family.
A great place to eat for all the family including the dog, just book in advance to be sure.

Sunday lunch here is delicious. We ate as a family and everyone thoroughly enjoyed.. Order the cauliflower cheese you won't regret it. I had beef, partner had lamb, the child's meal was lovely too.
The atmosphere is so friendly and it's lovely and warm inside. The tables aren't too close together.
And the little zoo was fab for my little boy.
We booked a few days before and will definitely be back.

Came here for Sunday lunch on recommendation. Three of us fancied prawn cocktail (at £9 each). Out came a large plate with just a ring of prawns in marie rose sauce. No salad, no bread! We know times are hard, but really? We asked for some bread which eventually came after we'd finished.
All 4 of us had lamb. It was OK but there was an excuse for a parsnip, a cold roastie, we waited for veg, had to ask 3 times for gravy that we were promised was on its way, and mint sauce. I may be old-fashioned, but for £18 a head, I expect my food to be hot and promptly served.
When the bill came, to add insult to injury, we were charged £4 for the half a small baguette and 2 small patties of butter that wed asked to be served with our prawn cocktail! I queried this, and it was removed from the bill (bill rounded down to £120). So, sadly, a not to be repeated, nor recommended, experience. Sorry.

We ate here as a very large group the night before our friends wedding. The food was perfect and the atmosphere lovely, however I really want to give thanks and credit to the young man that served us. He stunned us as he knew every detail of both the food and drinks menu, was attentive and polite, and not at all overwhelmed by such a large boisterous group. Apologies if I get this wrong but he may have been called Aaron?? He is a credit to your establishment

Call in on the off chance of a table. Been here a few years back and wanted to know if they could exceed my experience from last time…. OMG they knocked it out of the park.
Warm family local run Inn.
Atmosphere old world with a modern vibe. Staff happy to help very polite and excellent customer service.
Food starters we both had home made soup with rustic bread. Delicious.
Main
I had medallion of Rib Eye with a choice of either Diane Sauce or Peppercorn which I had. Requested it cooked medium to medium rare. It came with seasonal vegetables which were cooked to perfection with that slight crunch and very creamy mashed potatoes.
My friend had Coley and Prawns in a butter sauce with the same vegetables neither of us stopped praising how good the food was.
To finish off
Home made bread and butter pudding with the right amount of custard and home made cheese cake with cream.
Even though our eyes were bigger than our bellies. If we could we would have licked our plates.
Don’t take my word for it. Come and visit. I will be back here on my next visit west.
Thank you for a fantastic experience and the best meal we have had in a long time.

Table of two on a thursday lunchtime. Firstly the waitress took our drinks order but then the drinks didn't turn up for ages. When the waitress came back to take our food order she realised she had forgotten to bring our drinks and went to get them.
Our starters were king prawns and calamari which was ok but well overpriced for 2 pieces of frozen calamari and two king prawns. The Garlic mushrooms were a very small portion and served on crusty bread which was soggy. I don't think serving a cream garlic sauce directly on crusty bread is a very clever idea.
The battered fish main was below par with the chips being undercooked and very pale. The batter on the fish was average at best and definitely the dearest fish and chips i have ever bought in my like. The other main was a king prawn balti which tasted more like a Korma but with 7 prawns inside it was well over priced at twenty one quid. The poppadom was soft and soggy. The rice was nice.
Overall a lovely venue but service and food need to be well improved to ask these prices. Cannot say i will be returning in a hurry!

We decided a last minute get away for a couple of nights and came across this wonderful place. We arrived rather late and were warmly welcomed by the owner Anthony and the bartender Lloyd. We booked accommodation and the room was outstanding quality and perfect for what we were looking for. We were shown around by the owner and even though we were quite late were welcomed and had a lovely meal, I can fully recommend the chicken curry.
The room was very clean and comfortable, very close to the beautiful caves near by.
The accommodation was very new and in great condition, the breakfast was lovely too and cooked to perfection. Anthony should be proud of the team he has and the effort put into the accommodation and the zoo which was a fantastic addition. We are most certainly going to return.
