Have been going to the Black Horse for several years and have never been disappointed. They always have an extensive and inviting menu and always cooked to perfection. Only ever had one problem, mussels for starter - half of which had not opened - they immediately said they would not charge us. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Have... More

Arrived late for lunch and enjoyed a "door step" sandwich lunch and good pint of ale which went down nicely. The menu looked extensive and the restaurant was very busy. Very good and hospitable service in the front bar in a comfortable chair by the real log fire. Not being a local finding this pub/restaurant/B & B was not easy,... More

This is really nice pub/bar, very friendly staff a real nice atmosphere with a busy bar and restaurant which on a Tuesday night in March speaks volumes. I asked to dine in the bar area which the manager was happy to accommodate. The chicken liver starter was as good as I have had and the kitchen served with salad rather... More

Let’s be honest- going for a meal in an unknown restaurant is a gamble these days. This one came highly-prized from one of our sons. Its an old-world type village Pub on a crossroads with a reasonable sized car park at the rear. Staff were quick to respond to us for our booked table and we were soon seated in... More

Stopped off here for what we thought would be a quick drink. But once we was snuggled by the open fire is the chesterfield chairs we opted for dinner too. Food was very nice we had lamb shank and the fillet however for the price paid for the fillet we have definitely had better at other local pubs. Very lovely... More

Why do eateries think that all vegetarians like goats cheese? Miserable experience for a vegetarian who detests this. Nice looking place but please be more imaginative with your menu.

This of one place that we had heard good reports but for whatever reason we had just not got around to visiting. We are kicking ourselves now! It is about a mile from Detling village. Plenty of parking which is just as well at it was (for good reason) quite busy. Warm welcome and a good menu and specials. We... More

After a recommendation by a friend, we looked forward to our visit. Visually it was all we expected it to be, quirky, olde worldy, great atmosphere...but things went downhill after that.. We were shown to our table by a pleasant young waiter on his first day - he did as well as he could but clearly had little idea what... More

Description
Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that Maidstone is only a stones throw away from Thurnams Black Horse Inn. Looking from the outside like the most traditional pub in Britain white washed, tile hung, sash windowed, sign swinging in the breeze inside will come as no great shock. In winter youll find a roaring fire in the imposing brick fireplace, dried hops drape from the ceiling and antiquey dark wood is in abundance. In summer diners can head outside to a paradise of shadey pergolas, ponds and green lawn or eat in the conservatory. Homegrown produce is key in a sophisticated menu which combines traditionalism with contemporary dining with impressive results.
