Was in town and found this on trip advisor and dried it out. Great food and the waitress was so nice and accomodating. Chai tea I had was good. Grilled cheese sandwich with avocado good and so was the roast beef dinner my Husband had. Didn't realize the history of Clint Eastwood till later.

Met my sister in Winterset Iowa for a day of shopping & lunch. We like local, down-home style places. Great, friendly staff. Food was some of the best I've ever had, on par with big-city dining. Menu items are a mix of bistro-style options as well as good old-fashioned diner plates. Crab bisque - fabulous! Sister had a grilled chicken... More

I was on a tour of the places in the film Bridges of madison and this was a place featured. I was on my own and the staff were really nice to take my picture on 'Roberts chair' Sure they are used to people doing this but they made my day

My wife and I have not been to Northside Cafe for about 10 years. We remember it as a good greasy spoon. We took our family there yesterday for lunch and were we ever surprised. This is a wonderful place to travel to and have a meal that is worthy of the journey. To call our meal good is not... More

Road trip stop for a Saturday morning breakfast. From chicken-fried steak & eggs to French toast and more, all was delicious. Took home some kale & bean soup, coconut cake, and orange/cranberry crisp. Generous portions of great food. We'll be back.

We stopped here with friends hoping this would be a good place for lunch. Service and server were slow and 3 out 5 orders were incorrect. Our appetizers were overcooked and our salads weren't worth the price. Maybe it was just a bad day, but we won't be back

My friend and I visited this establishment for lunch. We both ordered the special which was the hot roast beef sandwich. It was really bland and cold when it was brought to the table. Service was slow as well. Dessert was pretty good though.

This place definitely earned its #1 spot. The vibe is awesome, the food is even better. It's a must stop.

Marion Robert Morrison was born in Winterset, Iowa, 15 miles southwest of Des Moines, in 1907 and left for California when he was three years old, long before he became known to the world as John Wayne. So it is unlikely that he ever had a meal at the Northside Cafe, which opened in 1876. But if you are visiting... More

If you like cinema, and specially "The bridges of Madison County" you should visit this café, it's been changed since the movie but you can still imagine the scenes, the menu it looks good and great prices, I tried beef sandwich with gravy and mashed potatoes and was good, and the staff very nice!
