Haven't been here for sometime despite being quite local. Made a last minute decision to pop in for dinner after a day out. Haven't heard much about the food here lately so didn't really know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. Nice starter of fish goujons but a little bit of chip paper would have moped up the dripping... More

We had the Beef Wellington, lamb rump and steak and kidney pie. The Wellington was tender, the lamb beautifully cooked and the pie very well defined in its ingredients. The sides were very tasty as well. Service was prompt and very friendly. The pub is very quaint both inside and outside.

Had a nice meal here with family, would not say it was that special, polite staff, found it pricey for pub grub. The building itself is lovely. Would not rush back.

All the Sunday roasts were excellent - plenty of it, well cooked and good value at £12 each. The other meal eaten by the group - ribs & chicken - was enjoyed too. The staff were friendly and efficient. The pub is a lovely thatched building with lots of character inside. Plenty of parking and easy to find -just a... More

Visited Chequers for a meal this weekend and very disappointed. The pub itself was cosy but our mains were both very disappointing - flavourless and overcooked. I would have fed this back had anyone asked. No one checked how our food was or if we needed anything despite staff standing around chatting. In the end gave up trying to get... More

Very good customer service and a very traditional country pub which is lovely In the winter with the open fire and cosy interior. Food is very average and several of our meals came swimming in sauce. Not enough to complain about but I wouldn't say it's the best food I've had. If I was invited back, I would still go... More

Haven't been here for a while so wondered if change had occurred, but needn't have worried, the quality was as good as ever. Friendly staff and an extensive menu to cater for all tastes. Excellent starters and sizeable main dishes, forget your diet and enjoy. Never had a bad meal here.

Not impressed. Asked for no ice in my drink which didn't happen so didn't bode well for the meal. The taste of the oil overwhelmed the starter. Mains were swimming in grease, veg was over cooked, chips were soggy. There was too much on the plate and the cost was too much for average greasy pub grub. Would not recommend... More

I went on a Saturday night with eleven others, we had a fantastic time. Everyone from the Chequers was superb, very friendly making certain we had drinks, food orders etc. I went for the steamed pudding, the wife had steak both cooked to perfection. The rest of our group had nothing but praise for the food and service. As I... More

I haven't eaten here for years and after hearing that the old owners where back have been wanting to return and made it at last , my duck was good but the veg let it down . The duck livers where good but served on odd French stick that I did not think worked. The rest of the party had... More
