We were a bit wary when we pulled up to Brenda's, a very modest building in an out-the-way spot covered in hand-lettered signs. A slick chain restaurant it's not, and thank goodness. Brenda has been homecooking fresh meals here for 30 years and the walls are covered with photos of Black leaders, family, and appreciative guests. Each day offers a... More

We found this little diner and we just loved it. Each day of the week, Brenda has a different menu. We were there on a Monday and my husband had the smothered pork bones, which were out of this world. I had the meatball stew, also fantastic. It comes with 2 vegetables. Be sure to get the red beans. Best... More

Call ahead! Brenda's appears to be closed. We were there Jan 30, and both doors were padlocked. We called and were told that the phone had been disconnected.

There are a small amount of tables here. They call what they serve here "soul food." Brenda seems to be present all the time, a plus. I had a delicious shrimp stew with side dishes of very good corn, potato salad and bread (see my photo) that seemed to taste like a doughnut, all for the price of $9.

You can taste the love in every bite! This place is the real deal. They use lard, butter, salt and pepper, so if you're on a diet, vegan, calorie restricted or trying to get down to your "fighting weight" you're not gonna find anything here. That said, if you love good food and don't mind buying it out of a... More

Brenda's is definitely worth a stop if you are anywhere near New Iberia. The staff was so friendly, and the dining room so quaint with all of the family pictures. But, it's the soul food that's top notch!! Three of us shared two entrees and it was more than enough. We savored shrimp stew and shrimp fettuccini with sides of... More

When we walked into Brenda's we were greeted by an enthusiastic staff. Everything we ate was top-notch. The shrimp stew was flavorful and seasoned to perfection. The Shrimp Alfredo was to die for, the potato salad, perfect and the green beans, delicious. Our group thought the fried catfish was the best we had ever eaten. Brenda's is famous for their... More

I discovered Brenda's online. And what a great find. Food is ALWAYS good. Staff is extremely friendly, personable. Always worth the drive. Miles better than ANY restaurant in Lafayette.

Brenda's fried chicken is the absolute best my wife and I have had ever. The food in this place is like a trip back to my childhood in central and southern Illinois when people like my grandmother could still cook really well. We didn't have anything at Brenda's that was less than perfect. When we arrived and found out there... More

such friendly people first of all... food quality was amazing too, everything from the mains, to the sides, and even the buns. the menu changes regularly, but we tried it all and had: fried porkchops, stuffed turkey wings, meatloaf, rice & gravy, mustard greens, white beans, and candied yams... make sure you get some buns on the side which are...
