Even though it was Easter weekend the service was attentive and acceptably prompt. The food was good and the setting has a super view over the Tyne valley. Booking essential at busy times

Here we are, Easter Monday late lunch, beautiful characteristic place, very promising. I ordered a steak with the inn's own sauce and it was extremely good. It came with probably the best fries I've had so far. The service wasn't the fastest I've experienced, but the food was worth the wait. Thumbs up!
4 of us had dinner here in the recommendation of local knowledge. It is not an easy place to find without having that local knowledge....I'm so glad we went. The beer was excellent, the food was excellent and the service attentive. I highly recommend this spot for a casual enjoyable dinner!
We had not been to the Rat for a few years. Reviews seemed good so a booking was placed. The pub was buzzing and lively however our table was in a corner against a door where the staff constantly went past. I suspect it was a " we can get some extra cash from squeezing a table in there and... More
Even though we had to eat in the conservatory, rather than I the lovely gardens, our experience was just as good as we recalled. Buzzing, as usual. Friendly, warm ambience with lots of laughter ringing throughout. Super, deliciously different food......belly pork with rhubarb compote! Yummy Not the cheapest but one of the best. We will be back.
Having been to this cosy pub for drinks a couple of times before and heard many good reports of the food I was confident of a good experience - which it absolutely was. However we were seated in 'the restaurant' at the back which, compared to the pub proper, has no great character. If I were the owners I would... More
My wife and I were taken on our first visit by local business friends with some apprehension having read recent Trip Advisor reports. However our experience could scarcely have been better. This was English eccentric and not high end haute cuisine and should be judged as such. There was a good range of well kept local craft ales and I... More
Ambience, service, menu, drinks all worthy of 5 stars.....but the food was a little bland. My burger had great texture but the cheese and relish were both dry and lacked taste and the roll was on the wrong side of reheated... Would definitely return to eat and drink more but based on what we ate it did not match the... More
I've been to Rat Inn a handful of occasions and always enjoyed the food, service and ambience. Unfortunately, this recent visit I needed to change my baby and was told there were no changing facilities. I have been to a few restaurants/hotels without dedicated baby changing but where staff have tried to accommodate by finding a table or a mat.... More
We had booked a sunday lunch 4 weeks ahead following the Telegraph review. Totally disappointed. Food mediocre, service rushed and then slow. We had to ask for accompaniments, table was a scruffy wooden table with sparse cutlery. Excellent view across Northumberalnd from within a tatty " lean to". Menu only available on a blackboard which we had to stand in... More
