We went for lunch and found the food pretty good. Wife had the enchiladas and she said it was very tasty. I had fish and chips. Fish was lightly battered, not greasy, and home cut fries were great. Will go again on our next visit to Calais.

It was very good. Plenty of cheese and enchilada sauce. Raw onions are also added. You can ask for hot or mild as well. Very filling and satisfying. I love this place!

These are your basic ground beef tacos (& enchiladas & tostadas & quesadillas) served with fresh lettuce tomato and good salsa. On special four for $4.95 when we visited. Be sure to order a side of yummy guacamole to kick it up a notch. Round it out with a bottle of Dos Equis. Decor is clean & attractive. A new... More

Very good burritos at a fair price. A little less filling than I remembered. But still very good. Been there for years. I would return if back in town.

I live next door and I won't go. Been there a few times when I 1st moved here, Yuc! I would never consider this to be authentic, or tex-mex for that matter. You might as well go to taco bell.

Have been going here for years, not real often but still fairly regularly. My daughter and I have both been disappointed the last few times, so there was reluctance on my part in going back tonight. Nothing bad, but just did not have the taste we hoped for - bland. Well, tonight turned our heads - three of us all... More

After reading reviews and people saying this is genuine Mexican food, I thought I'd give it a chance. Mistake! It reminded me of what a school cafeteria might serve on Mexican food day. Nachos were a neatly lined ONE layer of chips on a small paper plate, covered in canned cheese, and terrible hamburger. That's why it's so affordable. There's... More

The smells from the kitchen where very interesting. Things cooking on an open stove. I tried there burrito special very fresh and pleasantly surprised. The fresh salsa is available to take home. It looks like a whole in the wall from the outside but worth stopping in no Liquor licsense. I will visit again good value for your money. Burrito... More

I am new to the area and have yet to find a great Mexican restaurant around here. South of the Border sounded promising but was nothing but a big disappointment. The refried beans were disgusting, the "hot" sauce tasted more like marinara sauce than salsa, and the entirety of our meal was extremely bland and tasteless. Needless to say, we... More

Good Mexican food is difficult to find in Maine. It's impossible at 'South of the border'. I ordered the enchilada dinner. I got raw tasting corn tortillas wrapped around unseasoned, dry hamburger with a sprinkle of cheese and a few bits of raw chopped onion on top. There was not even a hint of enchilada sauce. We were given what... More
