I read this was The place to go for dinner. Unfortunately, I think that may have been true in the past. Wait staff was friendly; food was so so. The menu is pretty limited. If you're looking at the menu online, make sure it's the...current menu. Not what we were expecting.More

I had never been to this place before so I can't can't compare it to the past or yearn for yesterday. Today, this is an absolute gem. It is well worth the trip since it is pretty out of the way. The staff was super...warm and friendly. Yes. The menu is limited and yes the portions could be a bit bigger. But we loved what we ordered (I had chicken Marbella which was excellent ? And lucky for us we liked the choices. Desserts were delicious. Will definitely go back the next time we come to the Berkshires.More

It's enough to make you long for the good-old-days, notwithstanding Danny's quirky disposition. The new menu is very limited, and service incredibly slow. Drinks and entrees: both overpriced, quality so-so. What saves the place -- and hopefully will keep it in business for long enough...for the new owners to get their cooking together -- is its historic atmo, and the live music in the other room on some nights.More

First things first - you will not find a another place like this anywhere. I have been coming here for over 15 years and it never fails to provide a magical evening (and, despite the comment from another reviewer, it's nonsense that people only like...this place because of the Bob Dylan visit in the 70s - although that is cool). What is better since the re-opening: - The consistently friendly and warm greeting when you arrive - the sometimes charming, sometimes insanely rude former owner is no longer involved (although kudos to him for his genius at creating and maintaining an amazing atmosphere and smoothly run operation for so many years). Chris the new manager is super friendly, and treats people with respect and kindness. - The music - since the re-opening they have had some of the usual folks who used to play here, but also many new musicians and performers from a wider range of genres. I saw the legendary Bridget St John perform here in a room of perhaps 15 people. Great stuff. The music is now is piped into the dinning room which is also cool. - They have wi-fi now - so if you need to text the babysitter to make sure the kids are still alive you can (cell phone coverage is iffy). What is unchanged: - They have always had great staff here - they still do (Delia, for example, is awesome) - The magic of the fire pit and the grounds around the restaurant - They have kept a lot of fan favorites from the past - like the hill town hooker cocktail and the great decor in the bar and dinning room - The wonderfully intimate music room for live performances - Great cocktails and top rate beer choices Another reviewer spoke of a "corporate buy out" - the new owners are small business owners from NYC - they are not a faceless corporation. What still needs work: - The menu is very small, but they are just getting started and intend to expand it as the kitchen gets more efficient. - Some of the dishes are just okay - the meatballs, for example, are fine, but not amazing. The burger - which has both pork and beef - is delicious and has a great soft texture. The wedge salad no longer comes with the amazing Blue Cheese dressing, but it's more complex and still very good. Loved the focaccia/schiacciata bread with garlic butter, and the poutine. So basically, if you come expecting the magic from before you will not be disappointed. I suggest getting any of the dishes I mentioned and IMO you will be happy. Given time I'm sure they will sort out the kitchen and have more amazing dishes to offer. Long live the Dream Away!More

Not good. The place looked dirty and cluttered. It was hot and very loud with music blaring. There was a male staff member working in the kitchen wearing what looked like an oversized tank top that exposed his bare armpits. It was disgusting and management...should have been ashamed to have allowed that. It makes me wonder if they have anyone working there who is ServSafe qualified. To say the quality is nothing special would be kind. Five Guys makes a better tasting burger for more than half the price and will let you choose your toppings. There was a hair found in the poutine. The brownie was a rock hard piece from the corner of the pan. The draft beer was luke warm. The oven fries were tasteless (they seemed to be frozen homefried breakfast potatoes). Then there was the $10 Mac and cheese side. If there was a Mac and cheese police then they would have to raided the place. I got boiled elbow macaroni with no noticeable cheese or cheese sauce and no taste. The service was good. The server was very nice and attentive as was all the employees that we interacted with. They all seemed to be from the central casting of a Grateful Dead biopic but deserve credit for being the only bright spot of the evening. The Dreamaway is an institution in Becket. I guess people believe it to be some sort of hollowed ground because Bob Dylan drank there once 50 years ago. If the owners are going to trade on that legacy then they need to up their game,,,, a lot. They need a professional chef to fix what is coming out of the kitchen and hold the kitchen staff to some basic standards. Maybe then the ridiculously high prices would be worth the experience.More

First of all, the owner and manager were so friendly and welcoming and accommodating. We still felt nervous about eating inside so they set us up at a table outside and didn’t make us feel weird about it at all. We are all vegetarians, and...the vegetarian entrees ,both nights we were there, were absolutely delicious and very creative. We are so thrilled that this place is back, and considering that they’ve only been open 6 weeks or so, they are already running pretty darn smoothly and turning out great food. It’s the same warm, funky vibe, but with better food and friendlier staff. We look forward to the expansion of their menu and wish them well this first year. We really hope they are here to stay because so far, they are 5 stars in our book!More

Corporate buy-out of this place ruined it immediately. Tiny menu. Had to strain to find something of interest to order. (Would have walked out before ordering if the place wasn't so isolated.) Food not well prepared, not tasty, bland at best, very small quantities. The...meatballs were three small pieces, without any distinction, and the accompanying polenta was obviously watery and totally flavorless (that is, zero zero flavor). Tacos, too, lacked any flavor at all. Hamburger was not up to "diner quality." Prices are way way out of line. Walked out hungry and angry at the experience. Don't go with any expectations of charm or good food. Wait staff was okay. Will not return until under new management. I'll miss Daniel's former restaurant.More

Dream Away is back after three years. Had been a regular at the old restaurant and now they're back under new ownership. Different, but efficient procedures. Its only been two weeks since they've been open and the menu is relatively small, but the food is...excellent. Our party of 4 tried all main courses and all were excellent. Two desserts - tried both and once again, food is great. As I had been a regular in the past, I plan to be a regular in the future., Dined this evening 4/28/2023More

You know you're at Dream Away when you see the table-cloth and real, complete settings of dishes and flatware, that are always spotless and never match! Beautiful grounds include a lovely fire pit to enjoy quiet conversation and a drink, if you like. The menu...changes with the seasons, and you'll never be bored.More

We have eaten at Dream Away Lodge many times. The food quality is somewhat variable, but always at least passable. Not this trip. Portions were tiny and food almost inedible. My lamb was very over cooked and my four were all disappointed with their meals....Service was mediocre. The restaurant was packed and apparently they couldn’t handle that.More

Nostalgic step back into time. Feast for the senses with unique art, great music and farm fresh food. Our seasonal meals of pork chops and lamb were fair. I was disappointed in the vegetables that were more of a garnish than a side. Even the...apple tart was short on apples despite how plentiful apples are in season. Dream Away is aptly named as one can definitely get away for a few hours in this gem of a hideaway.More
