On way home after (another) fun weekend in Portland, we spent Easter Sunday night in charming/active/ever- improving Newburyport to extend our mini-trip. Did usual research and chose Black Cow (as BIG walkers and could stroll there from our inn (Essex Street-also a good choice!) on a cool evening. Had a 7:30 reservation and were seated quickly -several empty tables but... More

Cannot say enough good about the Black Cow. First, a tip: turning of Merrimac, drive all the way back to the water, the restaurant is on the water and while there is public parking right as you turn off Merrimac, do not be tempted to park there because there is ample parking at the restaurant itself and you will save... It has a great view, it's beautiful and the menu looks nice and not overpriced. Service was good and I think is a good restaurant for families.

Stopped in to the black cow for drinks and appetizers. The nachos were good, we ordered the half size and it was plenty big enough for two. The best part was the view from the table.

We enjoyed a relaxing lunch with friends at the Black Cow Tap & Grill. We sat on the open porch overlooking the waterfront on a warm fall day. The food was very good as was the service. It was great to sit back and catch up on life with dear friends without feeling rushed to leave, etc. The menu selections... More

Business took us to Newburyport this week, and it was a pleasure to rediscover this attractive riverside restaurant. We were entirely pleased with the Tomato basil soup, and Grilled salmon over asparagus specials. Nice wine selection, and Mrs. Gyr gave the hot apple crisp à la mode high marks. Our attentive and pleasant young waitress was charming, which is always... More

We had a late afternoon lunch here. Burgers for the kids, I had a salad with grilled chicken and my wife had the fish and chips. Everyone had a great meal and the views were awesome. Great family friendly spot if you are looking to eat right on the water.

Servers are timely and friendly and the food is very good. Our only complaint is when the Filet is $38 I don't want to pay almost $6 for each side... Bar menu is great and the actual restaurant is wonderful in all seasons-- fireplace and nice ambient lighting in fall and winter-- booths and table in DR and high tops... More

I think the food is average/good but is expensive. The atmosphere is probably the best part of the Black Cow.

I recently had dinner at the Black Cow Tap & Grill in Newburyport, Massachusetts. This restaurant is located right on the river and has excellent views. At the time of our visit, we were in the midst of bad weather and was mid-week so the dining room was largely empty. We had an excellent server who was very attentive. Our... More
