It was our last dinner on our trip to SA and it was definitely the worst. We had the portugese steak with eggs and the mutton. The fries were not crispy at all and should have been fried some more minutes. The steak was ok,...More

This is a repeat of the previous review, here is my response It’s beyond my comprehension why you accepted the dishes. Your waiter was busy at another table when the food came out and another waiter asked you if this was for you and you...More

We ordered a beef dish and a chicken dish and received two wrong and more expensive orders (rump steak and mutton). We didn't really touch the mutton and had half of the rump steak (worst steak in our three week tour). The waiter "kindly" gave...More

One of my worst experience in all of South Africa. The food was hardly edible (some dishes not even edible) and the service was the worst ever experienced in my life. With the waiter throwing dishes (because one of us told that he asked for...More

We serve wholesome traditional Portuguese/Mozambican cuisine which we accept may not be to your taste. We are always happy to exchange a dish or remove it from your bill if you are not satisfied. You have not mentioned the waiters name but a family member...More

Obrigado. Our food is traditional so we accept that some dishes may not be to everyone's taste. Ask the waiter or manager in duty for advice before ordering.

We went there the first night and the waiter was able to accommodate us despite we were without reservation. Menu was ok and prices were good. We went back the second night and we had even better food and great services.

Canimambo (many thanks) for your excellent review

The vegetarian burger was homemade and beautifully presented. The bun was glorious and the chips were perfectly fried. Without the mayo, this is actually vegan and beautiful. Service was great and food was delivered quickly. This is a great place to eat in Graskop.

Description
Being a sea-faring nation the Portuguese were intrepid explorers and among the first Europeans to visit the Cape of Good Hope in the 1500s. In the Colonial era that followed they left their mark in various places on the African continent – Angola, Moçambique and South Africa. From the indigenous people they learnt the usefulness of chilies (piri-piri), which they combined with more traditionally Portuguese ingredients such as olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Where European Portuguese food is delicately flavoured, Portuguese– Southern African cuisine is fearlessly fiery. Canimambo is a family run restaurant, where you can meet Carla, the Mozambican/Portuguese owner, husband Lance, sons Sean and Wesley, daughters Courtney and Nicole and son-in-law Nando. We pride ourselves in authentic cuisine, friendly service and a cozy atmosphere. Look out for the following when visiting us:The breadbasket: Portuguese rolls are an absolute treat and a meal within a meal. Figados de galinha á piri-piri (piri-piri chicken livers) is a local institution. Use the bread to mop up the lovely juices and you will understand why they never go out of fashion. Batata frita - hands down the South African Portuguese make the best potato chips in the country. Double fried with lots of salt and dollops of vinegar on demand, makes it comfort food in the extreme. Espetada de bife - The Portuguese espetada consists of cubes of perfectly aged rump steak, bay leaves and lemon dipped in course salt before landing on the grill. The natural bay leaf flavour permeates the meat and the salt seals those meaty juices in. Charred on the outside and succulent inside, it’s a steak meal with a difference. Galinha piri-piri (Piri-piri chicken) arguably the most popular dish in South Africa served hot, mild or with lemon butter sauce. Camarão grelhado na brasa (flame grilled prawns), sardinhas assadas na brasa (flame grilled sardines) and ervilhas com chourico e ovos escalfados (pea stew with chourico and poached eggs) are some of the other popular Portuguese dishes on the menu.
