I have eaten here a few times this year and decided to write a review based upon my experiences. I recently visited with a group of 6 of us. The positives: The spinach and artichoke and the lobster dip appetizer were fantastic! The cod dinner is my usual “go to” and I am usually quite happy with the taste. My husband liked the prime rib sandwich. Negatives: Tenderloin tips- father did not like the taste. We ordered a bacon, mushroom, onion and ham pizza. The bacon and ham are almost ground up and you would never be able to pick it off if you wanted to. The crust was described by my mother as burned but I was able to eat it. Pics attached. The blackened chicken pasta was not a hit as well.

Average food and limited sandwich selection

New owners had a chance to remake this great location after it was closed for over a year. Inside is very nice but menu is limited to mainly fish options. Wraps and burgers primarily outside fish selections. Service was very very slow but that could be pandemic related like every other business. Bacon burger was OK but nothing I would return for.

This restaurant charges a fee for using a credit card.

With no prior notification, a fee appeared on the check for using a credit card. Of course you have no choice but to pay the fee if you don’t have enough cash on you. Make sure ask them up front as they do not inform you of this practice.

Second visit not so great.

We visited this restaurant last spring and ordered three cheeseburgers, fries and drinks. It was delicious. However, we just went to get cheeseburgers again last night (take out) and the two cheeseburgers we ordered were terrible. Clearly, the burgers had been cooked a while ago, thrown on the grill to melt the cheese and given to us. The burgers were cold in the center, very dry and well done. The smell was unpleasant when I attempted to bite into the burger. The brioche bun was not fresh, but dry. I did not order lettuce, but it was wilted and added to my burger. I asked for pickles - there were none. Mustard was not added to the burger, but we were given packets of an unknown brand of mustard that was old and extremely thick when opened. The packets had no expiration date, but tasted old. The fries were great. With ended up eating very little of the hamburgers because we were worried about getting sick. We spent quite a bit of money on a meal we didn’t even eat. As I said, this was not our experience the first time we visited, but I am gun shy now. I hope the owner/manager makes sure to address this issue with cooks that send out pre-cooked meat. YUCK! I will let them know about my experience next time, but they really do owe us dinner.

Very unacceptable! Dozen plus of tables empty inside, at least 6 tables on deck empty, lots of servers standing around being happy. Really Great Music on deck! SO!, SO my group of six will have to wait ( trying for social distancing for my health reasons Covid), outside in parking lot in sun along with dozen other customers waiting to be seated too! 30-45 minutes! With the comment, we don’t have servers? Server have certain tables that they service! What! they can’t or will not help on other tables! To take care of customers! What!, You’ve got to be kidding I can see them, and tables ! totally unacceptable! This would have been third time in a week! Your food and specials are wonderful, and I can kind of understand staffing problems in kitchen, even running out of some dishes, your food was superb, and at time you’ve stop taking dinner orders for them to catch-up, ok! Bar was open , good! To finish up my comment, I normal just don’t return to Restuarant with this level of issues! You have so much good going on at AuSable Inn, and now you need to fix problems, you can’t afford to turn away $180. Dinner and bar tab plus tips and stay in business. I hope you do! Because we enjoyed the AuSable Inn. Photo is from a much much better visit

Sign on door said open at 4pm. We thought we would wait got there at 3:40 by 3:55 about 10 people waiting for doors to open we left at 4:10 no one has ever came . Ended up at the Office great food great service .

It took an average amount of time to be greeted. The Au Sable River can be seen from some tables. It was decided to try the “Lake Perch” dinner. There were generous portions of breaded pan-fried perch that tasted great, with good service during the duration of the visit.

Will Definitely Return

We reviewed the Au Sable Inn in November ‘21 and said we were “cautiously optimistic”. We finally returned and we’re so glad to be able to say the restaurant is still good. We went with another couple on a Thursday evening and it was busy in a good way. (Empty restaurants seem so depressing!) Our server was very friendly and all of us enjoyed our dinners. Keep up the good work because Oscoda needs decent restaurants! We will definitely return.

Cautiously Optimistic

The last review I wrote was a few years ago after eating here a few times with family and friends and having bad experiences. Ownership has changed since then and since nothing else was open (being Sunday night) we thought we would give it a try for dinner. We were greeted and seated promptly and our server was very friendly. Our food came fast and was quite good. I had fish and chips which came with three pieces of fish, smashed red potatoes and coleslaw. My husband had blackened chicken with pasta. Overall it was a pleasant dinner and we will definitely return.

We were in Oscoda on a monday and tuesday and most restaurants were closed. So we came here, we were more than pleasantly surprised, we shared fish and chips the first night, excellent, as good as we've had anywhere in the USA, second night, lemon chicken, we also shared, very good! Portions are large, atmosphere on river very nice, staff extremely friendly. We definitely recommend

Too salty but will give it another try

Sent back the mushrooms because they were SUPER salty. They hand batter them, but we were told that they can't make it without salt. Hmmmm..All 4 meals were salty, 2 lemon chickens (very moist) and 2 swedish meatballs (meatballs weren't as salty but sauce was) but it all seemed to have good flavor. We will give it another try.

Food was great. Service was excellent. Music outside. Waitstaff was all very pleasant. Shorts are a tad too short in my personal opinion. Will definitely be back !

Food was great, we sat at the bar and service was great. Management should rethink the “shorts” the waitresses wear as they are more like the bottoms of a volleyball uniform and it was extremely uncomfortable watching the girls walk around pulling them out of their crotch and butt … and I’m sure it was just as uncomfortable for the waitresses.
