We come here for special occasions, this last visit was for an anniversary. We had fantastic service, and the ambience was perfect. Beyond the aforementioned I can't give anything a positive review other then the wild boar. Ribeye was on special and two of us ordered it and agreed that it fell short. Although not overcooked and having good flavor... More

This upscale restaurant in the lower level of a former state mental hospital is distinctive in both its location and its menu. It is a great place for intimate conversations because there are so many alcoves. It is also in an area developing as a destination with quaint shops and more. The menu is fresh, modern, and suitable for the... More

My wife and have eaten at Stella's at least four times, and would dine here more if we could afford it. Swimming with the bottom feeders in the Grand Traverse economic currents, we are happy to dine here once a year, usually for a combined birthday-anniversary feast, and occasionally with special out-of-town guests. The food is way beyond anyone's normal... More

Our 2nd visit to this restaurant. Our first one trip we could hardly hear each other because the restaurant was so loud. The food such as the salad was very skimpy and overpriced. We decided to give it a second try but once again it was so loud and we couldn't enjoy our dinner. No real parking as well. Parking... More

Our food here was delicious. Started with the Mussels in a spicy mustard cream sauce. Yumm. Next I had a few oysters. I am still new to oysters and our server was very friendly and knowledgeable to help me make a selection. I thought they were great. We ordered one pasta dish and one meat dish. The pasta and chicken... More

Visited this restaurant with very high expectations. Came away with very mixed results. The antipasti selections delivered. The beef cheek and beef bone marrow struck the right chord. Flavorful and delicious. The Atlantic mussels were OK with a bit of spicy zest from the mustard cream. The sea scallops were over cooked and rubbery. Entrees were also a mixed bag.... More

The atmosphere, menu and service exceeded my expectations! We were able to get a lovely table on Sunday the 30th of October-in time for dinner service-I opted for the chefs cut on appetizer and main course-with an additional beet salad- from the sparkling water onward the whole meal was above all expectations, a tad pricey?- Not really for the experience... Cool ambiance-call well in advance for reservations-food very good but pricey, hence 4 stars rather than 5...could use some more affordable dishes on the menu to appeal to all.

Everyone that vacations in Traverse City and likes to support the locavore movement should try this restaurant. Built in what was the former state mental hospital, the setting is a unique place to enjoy good Italian food. Our service was slow, and a couple items fell a little short of expectations, but I would definitely come back again and try... More
