Do you expect the most succulent roast WILD boar? Sambal that is full of flavour with a hint of piquantness? Thick seared Ahi tuna slices over Japanese ramen drizzled with savoury soy, sesame oil & a touch of wasabi, if you like. But, what gets...the gastric juices going must be their trio of tapas starter. This may be jellied pork leg (yes, leg of pork), Spanish tortilla or prawns fried in fat (not vegetable oil). The beverage is a choice glass of Gruner Veltliner or Chardonnay. Then, you go through another six courses, dependent on available fresh ingredients from the market. 2-day pre-booking is required to experience this gastronomic treasure tucked away 20 minutes from KK city centre. You'll need a car (excellent driving instructions) or pre-booked taxi both ways. If you think the city restaurants are reasonable, check out their standard price of MYR35/pax for a 5-course meal that fills. Wines not found anywhere in Sabah, starts at a reasonable MYR80/btl for a German Riesling/Petit Bordeaux Chateau/Austrian Gruner Veltliner. Just ONE sitting per night, so take your time and enjoy.More

My bf & I celebrated our anniversary in Kota Kinabalu and we decided to go to Happy Vines for this special event and it was very very special. Even when I was sick, the food still tastes so yummy to me! We tried all sorts...of exotic cheese from Europe, different types of wine that is hard to get in Asia and also a special type ham that is really rare (forgot the name but the ham has like, less than 1% fat if I'm not mistaken, hahaha!). The owner (also the chef), Remy, has traveled to most parts of Europe and brought back all sorts of unique food stuff from there, which was very special. We also learned a lot about Western food from him so it was also an educational evening for us. We had such a unique experience and will definitely go back there again. The food that was served to us consists of: STARTERS - Prawns fried in Bacon Tortilla Espana Fillet of Fish with Coriander Salsa FIRST PLATE - Seared Tuna with Noodles tossed with Carrots & Capsicums flavoured with Citrus Soy SECOND PLATE - Seafood Paella THIRD PLATE - Mutton Ragu served with Spaghetti & Ratatouille Vegetables DESSERT - Queso de la Serena on Biscuit Fresh Fruit Juice The place is 20 minutes drive away from the town area and not all cabs know the location of this place so if you need a ride to this place, call Vincent Mawan (+60146553166) then show him the address: 74 Taman Malakun, Jalan Putatan Ramayah | Penampang. He will know where to take you and its only rm20 for one way trip. Remy and his wife are very very friendly & helpful so if you would like to customize your own dinner menu, you can email him at hv@happyvines.com Check out this link for pictures and lists of food selection: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.220660107982764.50540.117749908273785&type=3 If you want to have a special romantic evening, I PROMISE you that you won't regret eating here! :DMore
