The food that was served was tasty and nicely portioned. I just felt that the restaurant lacked a little atmosphere, although I am unable to say why

After trying to go for Sunday lunch at a nearby restaurant, that turned out to be fully booked, we decided to go the the Chequers Inn in the hope that they had space for us (I really don't know why we didn't just go straight to the Chequers Inn in the first place...). We were surprised to be seated so... More

Booked with high hopes! We came with a French friend who has a bad experience of English food during her stay. Pleased to say the chequers met our hopes with a really good Sunday lunch. The Yorkshire pudding went down very well. Very good service, very good food. Thank you

We walked up the Inn from our B&B and eat in the bar area. The food was excellent, and we enjoyed a main of guinea fowl and a desert of sticky toffee pudding with caramelised banana and banana ice cream. Both were cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. Very welcoming.

Called last Sunday whilst on a circular walk from Curbar edge. This was the halfway point & we had already planned to call for refreshments. My wife not feeling too hungry opted for the cheddar & chutney sandwich which came with side salad & chips. Myself couldn't resist the Roast lamb which came with Yorkshire pudding & a nice selection... More

The food is excellent. We had the steak pie, vegetarian tagine, burger and chips and the haddock risotto and they were all really good. The service was fast and the prices very reasonable.

Stayed here for two nights and had one evening meal here as well as the breakfasts. Mains were very good and service nice, however my wife's "twice cooked home chips" half of them were under cooked! A minor error and small mistakes do happen. So we decided to try a pudding as we had never had one for £7.50 -... More

We are here because of good reviews but we will not return. The service was extremely slow. One hour wait for burgers. The food when it arrived was ok only. The staff looked harassed and not terribly friendly either. There are other places around much better.
