To say or think that this is a cute retro fast food place would be incorrect and a disservice. The King's Hat and their "flying saucer burger" and old time drinks are not retro, they are originsl. The place hasb't changed in the numerous decades snice it was built! It truly is like going back in time and the food... More

King's hat has been a Billings fixture for over 70 years...I honestly don't know when it first opened, but I suspect the mid 1950's. King's hat is famous for it's "Flying Burger", which is basically a burger made between two pieces of bread and toasted by an ancient 2-sided iron that seals it closed in a saucer shape and toasts... Where else can you get a Flying Burger? What is a Flying Burger you ask? It's a cooked hamburger patty sandwiched between two toasted pieces of bread but the bread is clamped around the patty. In other words it comes out looking like an Uncrustable. The Fried Mushrooms were piping hot all the way home. The people are always so... More

Tucked into a back street near downtown this tiny jewel of a drive through is simply not to be missed. These guys are serving up burgers and hand cut fries, malts and shakes that taste like the ones you got in your childhood (30 years ago in my case). Everything is amazing. Super nice folks! Simple menu. Busy all day... More

We were looking for a local place to stop and get a quick bite along our road trip. This was perfect. The line takes a little bit (probably 20 minutes from start to finish for us), but it was worth it. We ordered using the order boxes that line the drive in. The line of cars backed into the street... I would never waste any time rating a fast food restaurant. Don't be fooled by the lack of formality with this place. It's what burger drive ins used to be before the industrialization of food began. They have one location and one location only. Great food, not terribly fast (because they're really cooking your order after you order), great price...well... More

This is a drive in with a small parking spot. Hard to get to on some days as they get very busy and the line backs up way down the street. The meals are very good and they give a lot of fries when you order the fries. The shakes taste fine. They offer a lot more then burgers.

I lived in Montana for years and just found out about this gem of a drive in a few years ago. Now we go here several times while visiting from Phoenix. The fries are made fresh from potatoes and cooked to perfection. Compliment these with a flying Berger and your favorite drink and you'll enter drive in heaven! You can... More

I am going to have to part ways with a lot of the reviewers on here and just give Kings Hat an "Average". I had been there in the past and thought it was really good but it didn't really jump out at me the last time. It's not bad by any means, just not great. It may be that... More

This is a drive up only. There are some picnic tables and a shelter which will accomodate a few vehicles. Fast service, good food, low prices. If it is a busy time, approach form the east as 'stacking' will go out onto the street.
