Went to Lochmara for a special birthday lunch. 18 people in all. They were already reasonably busy, but our orders were taken and it wasn’t too long to wait before they arrived. I had the pulled pork burger. The pork was very tasty, really enjoyed...it. A lovely place unfortunately we didn’t have time for a look around, as our boat had arrived to pick us up, right on time. I will come back!More
Let's be clear, I just love Seafood Chowder and the junk served to me at Lochmara was the worst ever. It should be advertised as Celery Soup. To be called 'Seafood' anything, then you should expect 'Seafood' to be a dominant item in the soup....it...was not. I counted 3 small pieces of mussel, and 4 bite sized pieces of white fish and 24 slices of celery. To be called 'Chowder' then you should expect it to be a thick soup, but this was no better than if I had opened a can of Watties.....worst of all, our party was one of the first served for lunch that day, so I hate to think what those who came late got, if what I was served was the best from the pot.......on the bright side, the toast was great.More
We have been going to Lochmara Cafe for a number of years as we have a holiday home in the sounds, so the boat ride is always fascinating and generally the cafe itself is okay. The assistance from the man on the jetty is always...prompt, polite and helpful. The waiting staff are usually great to deal with. It is a popular destination and at times the waits can be long, we enjoyed a very nice lunch there this weekend, I had fish and chips, it was cooked well and tasty. The wine was very nice but pricey, $13.50. It is a lovely place to go to and there are things to do not just have lunch or a coffee. I do recommend it, but you must be aware that it can be busy and you may have to wait quite sometime for your meal and that will be nice but dont expect fine dining!More
We went here for lunch as it was a beautiful day & I had family visiting from Australia. I ordered the steak sandwich (Medium Rare) & asked for the chips to be well done. When my meal arrived I cut into the steak & it...was well done so took it back inside to tell the staff. They cooked me another steak which was more on the rare side than medium rare but my chips were pale & under cooked !!! ... Not sure if they had a chef on that day or were using a cook who didn't know how to cook a steak. This place is so nice to visit but will maybe eat at another resort next time.More
We stayed at Lochmara lodge for 2 nights over New Years, which was a wonderful experience in sum. While the food from the cafe was quite good, it felt like we were gauged in the prices and the service was substandard (frazzled & inexperienced). If...you are going to charge $26 for a lunch burger and $35 for dinner mains (not including sides), frankly I expect a higher standard. Pricing structure on menu didn’t make sense either when you compared meals.
My steak sandwich was full of grizzle. Nachos was tasty but overpriced. Steak should have had greens on the plate at that price
The location is superb. With a few tweaks here and there, they could really improve their offering and avoid guest disappointment. For us, it put a negative taste on an otherwise beautiful experience.More
Lochmara on a nice day offers sensational views and hearty, tasty, well presented food. I was back for the Big Brekkie (again). The staff are generally friendly and mostly try hard but they were a bit hit and miss with the service this time. Not...bad enough to keep me away, but could try harder and make less errors.More
