OK everyone, this little gem of a pub needs to be on your "to do" list!
My daughter and I arrived just prior to 7pm into a warm busy environment with a bubbly atmosphere. We were shown instantly to our table and offered drinks whilst we perused their extensive menu. The waitresses were noticeably busy, but very polite and efficient throughout our stay. We had a 2 course meal which was substantial and delicious. We even ordered side dishes after noticing the quality of food arriving at other tables. They even offered a free bowl of salad from their salad cart which was beautifully fresh and delicious. Absolutely superb!
Replacement drinks came with waitresses on tap and very attentive.
This pub is run by a couple who know exactly what they are doing - service level, quality of food and value for money exceptional. You will need to book in advance if possible as this place is going to be busy weekends and weekdays but plenty of covers so worth a try for sure!
Well done guys - look forward to my next visit.

We were invited by our friends to try out the George IV for a first time lunch.
What a delight!
First of all. Don't be put off by the full car park as the pub is very spacious.
One had the rack of ribs, one had the half chicken and my wife and I opted for the carvery. We all agreed that the food was fantastic. OK. it's not cheap eating out these days but when you are served generous portions of beautifully cooked, high quality produce it is a rare event these days to leave a restaurant with the feeling of having had value for money. Of course, the icing on the cake was to have been attended to by such welcoming, efficient and very friendly staff.
For my wife and I, to have enjoyed such a delicious 'sunday lunch' on a Thursday was such a bonus as we still have the weekend to look forward to.
Only one little grumble - my pint of Double Dragon wasn't quite spot on, but we'll be back very soon.

All I had heard was good things about this place, so wanted to try for ourselves.
Arrived to a lovely welcome and shown to our table, the decor inside was not what I was expecting at all but fell in love with it straight away. Lighting was just right!
Waitresses were all very friendly and very attentive ( can only comment on the ones who came to us )
All food was served hot, really enjoyed. ( opted for starter and mains) added some photos, we hadn't put the chips on our plate by taking photos. But can see they also take pride in presentation, unlike some places who just sling it on plate.
Will definitely be back and reccomend 100 percent.

Heard so many good things about The George so wanted to see for myself how good it really was. Went with my mum and dad for a Sunday carvery. They serve Felinfoel Brewery Double Dragon which is a lovely pint if stored well and served properly and it was lovely. My dad had a Foster shandy and my mum a Fosters. My dad wasn't too happy the price for the shandy was the same as a pint of Fosters. He didn't know this until the bill came at the end. The carvery was nice but sadly nothing special. I've had similar quality meals for a few pounds less than the £15.95 being charged at The George. Sadly, a power supply problem meant we couldn't have dessert or even have any further drinks. I haven't considered this in my rating mind as that wouldn't be fair. My mum was expecting a discount on the meals mind or a free drink on our next visit by way of a gesture of goodwill for cutting short our experience. Again, I haven't considered this in my rating.

We arrived at 6:00 which is nearly opening time and were seated straight away. Service was fast to begin with, we received our starters very quickly after ordering and they were really nice and good portion sizes.
Upon ordering mains, the three of us went for either a rack or a half rack of ribs. When they were served, we were excited as the portion of ribs was massive. When we started eating, we were disappointed. The ribs were extremely fatty - to the point where at one point I ate a mouth full of just fat / gristle. We spent lots of time scraping fat off the ribs, which were okay at best. The chips that the ribs were served with were dry and over cooked - very crispy on the outside and some hollow on the inside. We then finished our food and waited around 35 minutes for our plates to be cleared, despite there being 5 members of staff serving food and there being 6 tables in the restaurant in total.
We then turned to trip advisor to see whether anybody else had the same issue and saw the disrespectful and childish way in which the “owner” was replying to negative reviews, which just confirmed that we will not be returning.

Hi there 🙂,
I have just returned from the George with my partner this afternoon after Sunday lunch. I wish I could have returned with a happy face but unfortunately as we know, it only takes one person to ruin your day.
I arrived at the restaurant to some very friendly staff which is allways a plus point. We were told by staff that we could immediately go to the buffet which was fantastic! However, we walked to the buffet only to find that the serving sizes for the meat were (and I'm trying to be nice about this) adequate for a 13 year old. Now bare in mind we payed £35 for 2 carvery dinners and 2 pepsies so not a cheap Sunday lunch ok🤔.
I asked the chef who was serving if I could have a slice of beef and a slice of ham. This was the meagerst of portions and my partner and I looked at each other with disappointed faces. We were paying more money than we would pay at the Woodmans Arms in Mumbles 🙁 for a Tesco Clubcard portion 🤏.
The most embarrassing part for myself as a 40 year old man was that I decided to ask the chef politely for a slice of Turkey. The Chef said to me in exact words " Well I've allready done your plate now". I genuinely didn't know what to say as I didn't feel like a paying customer and more like an orphan in the soup cue for the Salvation Army 😑.
The chef the replied "if you want more you'll have to pay extra". Now let me explain something from a customer focus point of view, you should never speak to a customer like this at a buffet, it's quite degrading. My subtle but kind reply was " I actually don't mind paying more". The chef then acted disgruntled and told me " you should of asked earlier" 😳😳😳. Well now I felt like a 11 year old who took 2 biscuits from the cookie jar without asking.
I couldn't believe this was happening at the buffet and felt embarrassed in front of my partner which was quite uncomfortable. I reiterated kindly again " I do not mind paying" and the chef just threw a slither on my plate and said forget about it its OK, "don't worry he said". Of course, why should I be worried?? After offering to pay more as a customer?? And being treated like a child in the process?? Of course.
By far not a Sunday experience that is worth a return journey at any point. Is this the world that we live in now? Paying more for less seams to be the normal, followed by a side order o discourtessy.
Then manager who I payed seamed lovely but I was so annoyed that we ate quickly to leave the restaurant and I could feel that the manager sensed this.
1 star 🌟 for friendly staff
1 star 🌟 for a nice manager.
Three stars less for a chef who was rude, disrespectful and embarrassing me in front of my partner.
Kind regards.
Mr Damien Roberts

Thanks for your review.
I'm sorry the portion size was not as big as you wanted but when you came to the carvery you asked for Beef. You were given the full portion of beef and then you asked for turkey also. That's a great trick to get more but unfortunately we are wise to this and generally just give a little more as we have to keep portion sizes of meat to around 6oz to ensure we have enough food for all of our guests.
You refer to another pub giving more than us and i have checked their website and they are indeed £1.30 more expensive than us so maybe that explains it.
After chatting with you on the phone today i have come to the conclusion that you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. I do thank you for your kind comments about our manager and staff though.
Hospitality is extremely challenging at the moment with staffing issues and the cost of goods and utilities and in the grand scheme of things i think we are batting above average!
Have a lovely day! Shaun (owner)

God tier Roasties on a fantastic lunchtime Carvery. 12:15 so the 2nd table to eat and it was just cooked so couldn't get fresher.
Choice of 2 meats or a bit of both (beef and turkey for me) and a veggie option for the wife. All the veg was delicious, super smooth mash and probably the best Roasties I've even had (like molten rocks of crispy fluffy goodness), they kindly allowed me 2 Yorkshire puddings that I filled with Herby stuffing topped with rich gravy and mint sauce.
The wife chose the George and what a shout, very welcoming staff who were always there to help and in my case cheer me on to finish the monster dinner I made myself.
Excellent value for money at £13.95 p/p for the Lunch time Carvery during the week.
We'll be back again very soon, this time I'll have the dessert too!

Visiting the George was a delightful experience. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the waitress who attended to us was friendly and helpful and the carvery was the best I have ever tasted - huge portions all beautifully cooked. Our first visit will not be our last for sure.

We have visited the george for an evening meal on a number of occasions. Plenty of parking space upon arrival, the staff service is exceptional and the food is absolutely delicious which means that we seldom try other restaurants now. We have tried a number of different meals on the menu and I have to admit they are all spot on! Great portion sizes with an equally great salad side bar. Can't wait to return!

Had dinner here last night for my birthday. What a great experience. We were seated in the room by the river with the open fire, very comfortable but elegant too. We had cocktails, a mai tai and strawberry daiquiri, very nice. We were very pleasantly surprised to see there was a salad bar, there was so much choice and also crispy fresh bread rolls. My daughter and I went for the fillet steak, cooked perfectly, chips were crispy and the pepper sauce was delicious. My son in law chose the surf turf chirp which consists of 10oz rump steak, scampi and half a peri peri chicken, in hindsight probably a bit ambitious but he did his best and enjoyed it very much.
The food was delicious, service was excellent and the surroundings are cosy and welcoming.
Would highly recommend and we will be returning soon.

My wife and I (and occasionally our family) are frequent visitors for Sunday carvery. The food is of an exceptionally high standard and their staff are also superb particularly Katie and Jess both of whom are extremely helpful, professional and above all friendly. They all provide real help with dietary issues and bend over backwards to ensure our needs are met. Shaun and his team deserve high praise for the excellent establishment that they run and I hope they continue to prosper.

Absolutely perfect, in every single way! The food was absolutely stunning, loved the salad bar too what a fantastic little addition to the meal. Staff were so lovely, attentive and provided amazing service, we were seated very quickly and food arrived fast too. The owner was lovely, very chatty and friendly and seems to have a great team, who provide a warm welcoming atmosphere in this beautifullly decorated place. Very reasonably priced too! Best meal out in ages. Thank you!! We will definitely be back!!

Our second visit for Sunday lunch as the first was so good 😊 Now dad wants to eat out every Sunday! lol. X All the meats are delicious, top chef.
Trust me I've tried all 3 : ham, turkey,beef.
It's a Carvery service so take as much as you can eat. Gravy has a lovely flavour and thick but just right .
The roast potatoes and parsnips are lush too. I can't get mine to be so flavoursome.
Service and friendliness is also great . No waiting around to be served either.
Definitely be back 🙂
Downside is the price of wine in this country gone....
£7.50 large glass of red. Medium rosé £5.50 . We like a glass of wine with our meal.
Desserts big enough to share with two spoons . Got to cut back somewhere.lol .
I hear the carvery is also available in the week at a cheaper cost .
Sunday £16.95 carvery each.
For 5 I spent approx £116 ( with drinks , 3 desserts , 5 carveries )
Diolch yn fawr .
Gracias,
Thankyou all.

I can't recommend the George highly enough. The atmosphere is so cosy, the staff so friendly and the food is second to none. Took the family for a Sunday carvery (not the first time and certainly not the last), three out of six were vegetarian and stated the nut roast was the best they've had. As for the meat eaters the meat was delicious and very generous portions. The veg, potatoes, gravy and sauces were exceptional and consistently topped up meaning it was all fresh and delicious. Do yourself a favour and book, you won't regret it. I'm lucky enough to be local and never heard a bad word said.

Today we made our third visit in a month to the George and had the most fantastic carvery (the best produce, superbly prepared) which was equalled only by the service we received from the lovely Charlie again. She's an absolute asset to this warm and welcoming establishment and made sure that everyone was made to feel special. See you soon. Thank you. Dawn
