Virginia City in Nevada was a 19th Century silver mining town. People still live there but it's now mostly a tourist town. A great place to eat there is Cafe Del Rio. It's amazing how much effort this restaurant puts into their food and service, given that most of their customers are probably one-time visitors. Especially recommended are the enchiladas... More

Cafe Del Rio is consistently excellent food. Specials most nights. Don't miss their Gospel Fried Chicken, with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn right of the cob.

Right next to our hotel, we had to try it out! I'm so glad we did! The best meal in all 4 days here!!! Ribs were awesome and the mac n cheese haunts my dreams! Will return and bring the Kids! It was a really nice evening just me and hubby. He really enjoyed his meal, but it's been 6... More

The Café is very charming and waitress was with minimal help. Still she had a marvelous smile and took good care of our large group.

Consistently good food for more than 10 years! Preparation is outstanding. If you are not into Mexican food, try their burger. Best in town.

If you're lucky enough to be there on a day they have Gospel fried chicken you'll fall in love. Their enchiladas, tostada, BBQ quesadilla and burritos are excellent too.

It's the Wandering Yank here. Mrs. Yank and I took a day trip to Virginia City, a place we'd been to a number of times but not for maybe 10 years. On earlier visits, I don't recall it being exactly a gourmand's paradise, so of course I checked TA for lunch suggestions. Cafe del Rio came up as #2, and... More

When we decided to revisit Virginia City the top item on our "to do" list was to have the Gospel Fried Chicken dinner at Café Del Rio. It's been two years, but I haven't forgotten that awesome meal. It's only served on Sunday and Wednesday so we were in luck, leaving Lone Pine early Sunday morning we were sure to... More

We were looking for something local to do for lunch while visiting Virginia City. We finally decided to try the food at Cafe Del Rio and were pleasantly surprised by the food selections and the great service. We visited around 1 PM on a Friday in early October and did not have to wait for a table at all. The... More

We were in the Lake Tahoe area and we were going to Virginia City. I looked on trip advisor for a good place to eat. We were meeting friends from Reno and it was a great place. The food ( gospel chicken and chocolate creme brûlée) was great. The service was awesome.

Thank Cheryl L
