Adjacent to a hotel, this restaurant offers good if expensive food.
Appetizers of grilled shrimps good if succinct.
Lobster bisque soup excellent
Main course of salmon a bit overcooked.
Rack of lamb good if a bit dry, I asked for mustard and was told they did not have any.
I have noticed that in the US chefs tend to be offended if you ask for mustard, an ingredient that is always available in Europe and provided without fuss.
BYO
Main drawback is the pricing which I find excessive with a very simple aragula salad priced at $18
Average service

Whispers holds a special place in our memory banks, and it was a pleasure to return after about 12 years. The room/ambience were exactly as recalled - classy and intimate. Our server, Meredith, was friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. All good...then we opened the menu and received a jolt of sticker shock. Twelve years may have gone by, but $69 for a piece of halibut and $48 for a chicken breast? Granted the presentations and flavors were truly first-class. But alas, nostalgia will have to wait for another reawakening. A sincere thanks, though, for the memories.

My wife and I always dine here when we stay in Spring Lake. A beautiful restaurant with great ambiance and excellent food. This time, we ordered an Arugula salad to split as an appetizer. Love the toasted pecans, the slices of pears and the goat cheese. For entrees, my wife ordered the Grilled Salmon and I ordered the night's special - a Double Cut Pork Chop that was cooked to perfection! To top off the evening, we split the Triple Chocolate Dessert, which was out of this world! Check out the pics below!

1 Server/1 Host on a Monday night dinner serving 7 tables of of 2-6 people on each table; quite busy for 1 server but he did a good job in practically all. The menu is so much overpriced ( no ceiling or standard prices) as compared to fine dining here in North Jersey. We ordered one of the specials, Octopus app & it was in a small plate with a tiny tail of the Octopus on 2 tbsp of couscous & another app of manila clams in linguini: extremely salty with sand grits in the clams; obviously wasn’t clean enough. The server who seldom comes to our table as compared to the rest, was kind enough ( at that point) to have it changed. So i ended up getting a piece (4-5 oz.) of grilled Salmon, a small piece of potato pie ( very salty too!) & 4 pieces of very thin grilled zucchini worth $55. It was good but not that special for the price🥴🥴.
Overall, not what we expected it to be in a Springlake restaurant which is “fine dining”.
Definitely not coming back & won’t be recommending to anyone!

I gave them a chance to respond before posting this publicly but got crickets as we did for our price fixed Thanksgiving dinner that was beyond a disappointment… here goes
We sat patiently waiting for our table after having a 6 pm reservation - we got seated at 6:50 pm. Ok it’s Thanksgiving and they have us over a barrel since not too many places are open for Thanksgiving and they wld also require a reservation. So we waited patiently and without complaint.
We get seated, the menus were placed in front of us and it was not at all the same as what was advertised on their website for this price fixed Thanksgiving dinner. There were only 2 appetizers on the menu (the original had 3). When I requested the burrata I was informed that was no long available so technically there was only 1 appetizer available which was gnocchi (that was not on the advertised menu). Next up, the second course the butternut soup is now replaced with pasta fagioli soup ??? Turkey dinner was the turkey dinner tho it was hard to determine what might have been missing. And for the desserts all kinds of changes - replacements, removed all together
This experience was such a let down despite the good turkey. We had much less menus choices than what was advertised tho we were charged the exact same price as the earlier diners. Poor planning on the kitchen’s part particularly since they knew the number of people coming since they required reservations. We did look for a manager but no one to be found.
Sad, we won’t be back after having many important special occasions there. We got treated like second class citizens but paid first class prices.
Such a disappointment

Vey nice setting & dining room. Also ,vey good waitress service. Salad appetizer was also tasty. Unfortunatel, both halibut (a $59 entree) & chicken entree, as well as vegetable sides were very overcooked. After 30 minutes my wife and I left 75% ofdinner uneaten.
We suspectproblemmayhave been inthekitchen, asthere wasalarghewedding party in progress at the B & B Hotelthat appearedtobe atered fromthesame Whispers' kitchen. We definitely would recommend dinerstocheckfirst withestaurant to insurenootherlarhegatheingis in priogress.

We are frequent diners at fine restaurants and do not mind paying for high quality food. Unfortunately, Whispers has taken inflation and supply chain price increases to new heights. Charging $59 for 3 lamb chops and a mediocre petite filet mignon is over the top. The value at Whispers is currently lacking.
The noise level in the main dining room has been and continues to be an issue which makes quiet conversation impossible.
We will be giving Whispers a miss in favor or other good quality restaurants in the vicinity.

Whispers was always our special occasion restaurant. We went last week and while the ambiance and service are the same, and wonderful, the food was not. Filet was overdone and the potato cake was tasteless. Same with the tomato salad. I miss the great food experience that was always Whispers.

Whispers is something to shout about. The chef’s special – shelled lobster and crab cakes with saffron sauce - was perfection and just the special treat we could have wished for our 50th anniversary celebration. Many thanks to our delightful hostess Ashley who provided superlative service and suggestions. For those concerned about the negative reviews regarding long waits for previously reserved tables, book an early reservation.

Food was great although the portions are small for the price. Waitress offered us dessert which we normally do not get. We gave in and ordered. It took a while to get the dessert. We were not concerned as we were on a stay-cation and had no bedtime. As soon as we got the dessert the waitress said we need to get payment because you need to leave because we have a party of five coming in. WHAT??? (In addition their computer system for processing payments wasn't working so we needed to do it "the old fashioned way"-no problem we are not in a rush or maybe we are). There were several other tables available. NEVER AGAIN!!

At Whispers the food is excellent, the service is top-notch (especially Ellen), and they do not rush you. Note to the chef:
. please bring back the grilled scallop appetizer on a bed of fettuccine with black squid ink (for those who don't know, black squid ink is extremely healthy and almost tasteless). You do a superb job with grilled scallops !
. you should collect the email addresses of your patrons and send out mid week (or Thursday night), the specials for the following weekend or week (appetizers and entrees). This would keep interest high, and bring in more business !

Due to the pandemic, we had to be resourceful finding dining options.
A beautiful porch has several tables for outdoor dining. There was plenty of room to social distance.
Tablecloths and fresh flowers made everything elegant.
Everything on the menu was tasty!
We were at Spring Lake for a few days and ate here twice.
Appetizers were so thoughtfully prepared. The Lobster Crepes were so delicious!
The grilled shrimp was perfect and they have a crab cake over chickpeas that we loved!
Our server was Cleverson. Very professional and knowledgeable about the menu. He helped us make our selections.
Entrees were wonderful.
I had the Salmon with dill sauce, which was a large portion, and it comes with rosti potatoes and squash and zucchini.
My husband had the Halibut with tricolor potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I raved about it when I was there last.
Others dining there had pork chops, steak, chicken and risotto.
Everyone was friendly and enjoying their meals. Desserts were heavenly!
Tiramisu was light and airy.
I had White Peach sorbet. You could almost imagine biting into a cold peach. Some desserts are served with strawberries and fresh cream.
The chef here knows how to please. Each dish is carefully thought out and prepared.
Parking is easy. Right by the porch on a not busy road.
We walked from our Inn.
Reservations are a must.
Only open for dinner.
Bring your own wine.
It's the porch next to the Hewitt Wellington Hotel.
After dinner take a walk around the lake.
Can't wait to go back!

The food was good but not particularly original: burrata with pesto and balsamic vinegar, rack of lamb with mashed potatoes, salmon fillet with potato cake, plus some seasonal vegetables. While good, it's hard to see how any of those dishes could justify the prices the restaurant asked for. I could have (and have had) better versions of every one of them at Manhattan restaurants for less money. Then there are the bizarre policies... The place is BYOB, which is already annoying at a fried chicken or burger joint but completely ridiculous at a restaurant that claims to offer fine dining. While located inside a hotel, the restaurant has no connection with the hotel so don't expect to order a (necessarily non-alcoholic) drink to enjoy on the front porch.

Whispers is always a go-to place when we visit Spring Lake. Very well-appointed and on the smaller side. Service (Meghan) was great We were seated within 2 minutes of arrival, 15 minutes early, on a Saturday night. The restaurant was not the crowded (?). It has gotten a little bit on the expensive side, but what isn’t anymore?

My husband and I had a reservation and we were really looking forward to it for weeks since we were visiting spring Lake. The hostess was lovely but we were incredibly disappointed when we entered the dining room. The tables were so close and the room so loud. We were brought to a table that was literally right next to another table for two that if they turned their head they would be in our face. It was so also so warm with no circulating or and no servers had masks. We have been traveling lately and have stopped at several places but this was the most uncomfortable we felt. We left and the hostess was understanding. Our intent is not to bad mouth the restaurant and we are sure the food is good but right now with a covid endemic people should be educated and know what to expect.
