The restaurant was half full/empty. It took them 1h50 min to bring us the food (1 steak and 1 fish) The girl recommended no desert because there was none! The wine ok Cosy restaurant Never going back OH!! If you go to Swellendam, BOOK YOUR RESTAURANT IN ADVANCE (but not this one)

After walking through the whole town, this was the only place on a Sunday that wasn't fully booked and welcomed us in. We were originally seated outside, but April was kind enough to find us a cozy spot inside near the bar. The drinks were generous, quickly served and April was a delight. We couldn't believe the size of the... More

We were advised to eat here by the place we were staying and we were not disappointed. The food, service and atmosphere was all excellent. We'd advise booking. We came with our baby in a pushchair and were made to feel very welcome. The pasta was particularly good.

We ate here today. Although the waitress was very nice and friendly, the food is bad compared with other restaurants in South Africa and there for overrated.

Here was a menu that had a lot of quirky, old fashioned food. I got intrigued and ordered the pork neck. (Normally I avoid eating pork.) It was served in a delicious cinnamon sauce that reminded me of snowy Christmas at home. My husband being, an Icelander was disappointed to get a well prepared fish, but that had unfortunately been... More

Enjoyed a delicious meal, with very generous portions, attended by a cheery, helpful waitress, Anck. Look for the log beacon outside which offers exciting warmth on a cool evening. Can recommend.

We enjoyed a stop-over in Swellendam and our hosts, at the B&B we stayed at, recomended De Vagebond Restaurant. Well... the fare was hugely overpriced - both of us enjoy a good steak and uaually judge any restaurant by their particular brand. We both ordered a 220g rump at R135 (normally restaurants offer 250/350g sizes) The cost of a 440g,... More

We then waited and waited and waited and eventually demanded that we placed an order for drinks. We did and then waited and waited and waited . The food was superb!!! Even the kiddies mac and cheese was no ordinary meal... the cheese sauce was delicious, as was the Malay curry, hake and chips and the calamari steak. And for dessert..... pecan nut and maple pie with ice cream and fruit...OH WOW! The owner was friendly and the atmosphere perfect

we chose this restaurant as it had an extensive menu which was family friendly - I wished I had paid more attention to previous reviews commenting on portion size as we got caught out and were really embarrassed by having to leave so much food. There were 4 of us and so we shared a tasting platter for 2 people... More

Under New ownership since 1 December 2010, it became a Family Restaurant serving Local Cuisine and Traditional South African Dishes, including; Bobotie, Game Pie, Kudu Fillet, Springbok Shank, Malva Pudding. We stock some of the regions finest wines and have a fully stocked bar. A big fire will be burning in the evenings if the weather allows to welcome all to a romantic night of the best South Africa have to offer.
