We recently moved to New Mexico, and have been exploring areas not too far from home. Our recent trip took us through Madrid where we decided to stop for lunch at The Hollar. My husband had the special, a BBQ Brisket sandwich which he pronounced delicious. I had fried pickles and some of the best fried okra I've ever eaten.... More

I had home made chile soup and my wife had fried green tomatoes. Both home made and fabulous.sauce on tomatoes unusual and very nice.We then split duck confit quesadilla for main course with green chile sauce.Large amount of food and extremely good.

Whooda thunk in little ole hippy dippy Madrid, NM that one would find such an amazing restaurant! A combo of Southern and Southwestern flavors that were to die for. Would highly recommend...and come hungry!

We were lured in by the scent of BBQ Brisket which wasn't available in the early afternoon. Had a delightful lunch - listened to the locals singing and playing. Very comfortable outdoor seating.

Most miserable and god awful meal I ever had. It was more Fancy Ketchup than BBQ and more Fancy Ketchup sauce than meat. I sent it back for meat with no fancy ketchup and the cuts that they returned were not fit for my dog to eat. On a more positive note but by far from being good was the... More

We were on the Turquoise Trail, returning to Santa Fe from a morning on Sandia Peak to the south. We walked in for a quick bite of lunch, and were so pleased with the result. The place was actually quite busy on a quiet Friday off season. Plenty of folks were dining outside but we thought it just cool enough... More

As advised by another contributor, we took State Rd 14 through Madrid on our way to Santa Fe. The smell of barbecue slow cooking made our decision to stop at The Hollar. The brisket wrap hasn't made it onto the menu yet, but certainly should! Using a recipe handed down from a friend, the barbecue sauce is delicious, meat melt... More

This was out third trip to Madrid in the last three years to visit the art galleries and we look forward to lunch at the Hollar. I really like the pulled pork biscuits with a side of sweet potato fries. My wife, a pescetarian, always enjoys one of their salads (this year with shrimp, green and tomatoes) and our friend,... What a hidden gem! Burgers on a biscuit and chicken on a biscuit were amazing. The fried okra was cooked to perfection. The wait staff was friendly and kind to my children - we will definitely come back!
