We just happened on this quirky farm shop/restaurant while travelling east towards Knysna. Quaint cabin style overlooking an area of water teeming with hungry koi carp and nesting colourful weaver birds. We enjoyed unusual flavoured milkshakes and toasties provided by a friendly and informative owner/hostess....More

Beautifully done farm buildings. Very neat, clean and homely. The owner (Bertus) is friendly and helpful. Neat and well kept communal braai area. Free wifi. Tranquil farms surroundingings. Good value for money. A real pleasure to arrive here after a long drive.

Feeding the fish is a good idea and also the deck. The milkshakes is also yummy but the price for a cappachino is a bit much. Also it would be nice to make the entrance a bit more appealing. We did not go in the...More

We stopped for tea and cake and thought we would give The Blue Cow a go. Upon entering the establishment we felt crowded in. There is hardly any space and right in the entrance is a table squashed into a corner. You try to look...More

When we walked into the Blue Cow restaurant at the 'waterfront' we were handed a slice of dry bread as part of the greeting - it was to feed the koi fish in the duck pond which the small restaurant overlooks (hence the waterfront). A...More

Description
Nestled at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains on the farm Tradouwshoek of Boetie & Hannette Cooke. Well known for spectacular views, bird watching, healthy country climate and unforgettable meals. The Blue Cow established in 2005 and takes pride in serving the best farm food available. Impressum Six generations ago Robert Cooke, a farm worker near Dublin in Ireland fell in love with a landowner's daughter, Mary-anne Proudfoot They were forbidden to marry because of the class difference so, undeterred, they jumped aboard a ship to Cape Town and then took an ox-wagon to Swellendam In 1890 the Cooke family ended up with the farm in Barrydale where they have been farming dairy and fruit ever since. Boetie and Hannette Cooke continued farming in the family tradition and brought up their children Bertus, Anika and Danel on the farm. About eight years ago Hannette had an idea. She told Boetie what she wanted to do and in true male tradition he told her it was a silly idea and wouldn't work. It took Hannette two years of female guile to convince Boetie that a restaurant in the "calf paddock by the dam" on the farm would be a good idea. And a great idea it was... The Blue Cow was born.
