We dined here on a Saturday evening before attending Syracuse Stage. It had been many years since we dined there last. After this experience I remembered why it had been some time since our last visit. The wait staff was SLOW, REALLY SLOW. We waited over a half hour for the server to take drink orders. We mentioned that we... More

On the road back from Massachusetts & couldn't bare a thruway rest stop- so googled best lunch spots in Syracuse - decided on Phoebe's with no regrets! Ambiance was warm and welcoming, service was exceptional - (thank you, Morgan) hubby had the angus burger, sister the chicken Waldorf sandwich and I had today's special because I saw it at another's... Wow, a warm and inviting environment with that down home feel. The menu is full of comfort and the sweets are not over done. I will be back before I leave.

Colleagues and I have been in Syracuse monthly since September and this is the first time we've tried Phoebe's. We've agreed that we'll definitely return. Decor is pleasant, food is good, and the wait staff accommodating.

This place was near my hotel and highly touted. So I went there for dinner and ordered a craft beer and Shrimp & Bibb Lettuce Salad. It was good. When the bill came, the price looked odd. I asked for a menu to check it. I was given a different menu than the one from which I ordered. Turns out... More

Only had a light lunch here - the food was delicious and the location perfect, across the road from the Stage and near SUNY. What I like the most is the decor, wooden furniture with a lived-in feeling and obviously competent designer minds behind it. If i lived here Phoebe's'd be one of my hangouts.

We happened upon this place by chance and went in for drinks and dessert. The atmosphere is beautiful, very cozy. Very quiet and private. We sat at the bar and had the bartender mix us new drinks she was working on for the holiday menu. She was excellent and friendly. We will be returning for dinner next time we are... More

I had my bridal shower here last week. With a busy schedule I didn't have much time to focus on planning. I had two very simple conversations with the staff and somehow my shower turned out absolutely perfect. It was set up exactly how they said it would, they anticipated every need. Drinks refilled before having to ask, food replenished... More

We stopped in here because it was close to our hotel. We got there early without a reservation. It filled up fast before we left. My wife and I ordered a special deal. Appetizer, fried polenta. Main, 4 oz. grilled salmon on pureed parsnips and a few green beans. The meal was delicious but the portion size was too small.... More

We had a well priced and delicious supper here. The service was friendly and I would visit again. Recommend the cheese cake.

Description
Originally known as Phoebe's Garden Cafe, the restaurant has a long and colorful history in Syracuse. Local lore claims that the building was originally a brothel, and Phoebe was its madam. The tin ceiling above the bar is original to the building and the name still honors Phoebe, but much has changed since those early days. William Eberhardt opened Phoebe's Garden Cafe in December of 1976 with a bistro style menu and an ornately carved wood bar.The atmosphere was rich with red brick walls, and deep green upholstery, all surrounded by lush green plants. The large atrium dining room was added in 1985, increasing seating and opening up the entire restaurant with a sunny new skylight.

In the summer of 2004, Phoebe's experienced a refreshing makeover with a bright new look in the atrium dining room with fresh paint, new upholstery, and artwork. The bar and cafe areas were softened with cool linen window treatments and warm shades of burgundy and cream. The coffee lounge also opened that year, and it became an instant hit with the surrounding university and business crowd. Those changes also warranted a new name to reflect the updated attitude and ambiance: Phoebe's Restaurant and Coffee Lounge. Classic elements of Phoebe's remain untouched-the French onion soup and enticing creme brulee. The lunch and dinner menu changes seasonally and includes many locally-sourced ingredients.
Looking for more of a quick bite on the go? The Coffee Lounge serves as a take-out window for breakfast sandwiches, lunch, and dinner, in addition to all of the made-to-order coffee and espresso drinks. The Lounge also has its own seating area and free wireless internet capabilities.
Phoebe's old world charm is right at home in a revitalized area of the city. Located on the Connective Corridor on East Genesee Street across from Syracuse Stage and near Syracuse University, Phoebe's is a favorite stop for theater goers. Phoebe's also offers private dining facilities with custom menus to suit. We invite you to join us-and make Phoebe's your new favorite place.
