Overall, Piedmont was good. I went because my friend wanted to go. The chicken gravy was quite good, but intensely flavored, so a little goes a long way. The pork chop I had was good too. I'm a bit conflicted about this review, because everything...More

We’d been wanting to sample Piedmont under John May’s direction for some time and finally got to do it. We won’t wait so long for the next visit. This restaurant is a must. The meals – there were four of us – were superb. The...More

Very good is sadly a stretch. The service was very good. The food was good. I was very excited to visit the Piedmont again. It had been several years, and this visit was my first for dinner. Plus, Chef John May, formerly of the Chef...More

Beautiful food and fantastic service. Our waiter John was knowledgeable and helpful guiding us with the menu. Portions are perfect size. The seasonal cocktails and wine list both have a great selection. Love the 3 and 6 oz wine pours! Chef John May is OUTSTANDING!

This restaurant is in a little bit out of the way from other restaurants in Durham. It was quite far from our hotel near Duke University. We had to use Uber. We had a reservation for three on Monday night at 7 pm. We were...More

We had not been to Piedmont in years and heard there was a new chef. We went for Sunday brunch. There were not a lot of options, maybe 10 or so. All were in the $12 plus or minus range. The dishes were sparse. I...More

Started with great cocktails (I don't usually do a cocktail - more into an unadulterated spirit or beer or wine - but they tempted), moved on to stellar food. Food was interesting, high quality, well-prepared. The service was good to excellent. Southern tinged, world influences....More

it had been awhile since several of us had dined at Piedmont, and we were hoping it had returned to the high level it had been under the original owners. It is still an attractive venue, but we found the food either really delicious or...More

I have eaten at Piedmont a number of times for brunch and dinner over the past four years. While the room remains inviting, the staff friendly, and the wine list impressive, the food has gone downhill. It seems the chef is trying too hard to...More

My previous visit was amazing which is why I wanted to bring my husband to this place. We came to Durham specifically to eat here. His fish was mixed with carrot cake, rhubarb, mushrooms and granola. Did not work at all and neither did the...More

Piedmont Restaurant has cultivated a loyal following by creating an adventurous, seasonal dining experience in the heart of downtown Durham. We shine a light on foods harvested and raised in North Carolina, including from our sister farm in Hillsborough, Coon Rock Farm. Chef John May’s inspired cuisine showcases local ingredients in classic Southern dishes, reimagined with an inventive spirit. Our regionally focused craft cocktail program, North Carolina craft beers, and extensive and award-winning wine list designed by Crawford Leavoy complete our modern farm-to-table experience.
