Have stopped here many times over the years. I only eat the herring but they do serve other seafood. The herring is fried so crispy that you can eat almost all of the bones. Might be an acquired taste, but I love it. Caveat - they are only open during "herring season" - usually sometime in January until sometime in... More

best herring we have ever had. Loved the atmosphere and service. Brings back my memories with my Dad on the river at Cypress Creek

Food was southern fried and delicious! I had the Trout and clam strips. Yum! Homemade pies for dessert, what a treat. A must to stop here if you are in the area!!

Come on in and get the legendary delicious fried fish, stewed potatoes, rock stew and fixings!! This is a trip to the past and a great treasure of the simple life in a fish shack down by the river. You can't leave after finishing that delicious meal without a slice of their wonderful homemade pies!! Lemon is my favorite, but... More

They Cypress Grill is only open January - April each year, and it's a great place to go for retirees looking for a fun day trip. While there, we met interesting people from lots of different places and very much enjoyed talking to them. The restaurant was full, with a line out the door before noon. As others have said,... This place is a great example of where the term "fish camp" came from. Building is slanted and seems like little has changed over the years except the patrons. Food was a little dissapointing. Tasted good at first but everyone in our party paid for the next 24 hours. Maybe it was the oil from the fryers as this was... More

We loved the herring, perch and flounder. Great fish. Great service. Hush puppies were too bland, but the pies were to die for! Incredible setting. Nice folks. A real NC gem.

Fifty years ago, when I was growing up in Eastern N.C., my Dad and I would occasionally make the short drive to Jamesville to have lunch at the Cypress Grill. My brother and our wives recently visited the place on a nostalgia trip. Some things haven't changed. The grill is open only in Feb., March and April (when the herring... More

We had a delightful supper at the Cypress Grill during its last week of operation for 2016 (they are only open January - April each year). This restaurant atmosphere harkens back to simpler times, and I'm glad we had the chance to experience it. North Carolina Public Television featured the Cypress Grill in a short video in March of 2012,... More

Went for lunch and found the herring very good. I had only seen them pickled before today, but was surprised they are very good fried. I had the coleslaw and a potato cake with them. My wife had the flounder and potato cakes. I thought the flounder was also well prepared. We had the lemon and chocolate pies, I found... More
