Great food at reasonable prices. Ashe Angler Sammy was outstanding. Would return if we were in the area

A party of three stopped for lunch recently. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, which wasn't an issue. The server, who was also tending bar, was friendly and seemed to have everything under control. She did explain that they were "short...staffed" and she would try to get our order in quickly. She went over several beers that were available from local microbreweries. I ordered a pale ale, which she said was excellent. She left and we didn't see her or any other server for a good 20 minutes. We finally got the Hostess to check on our food and she came back and said it was ready but she couldn't serve it. She finally got our server and we were able to get our food. When the food finally came, it was good ;however, it was an hour from the time we sat down until our food finally arrived. I never did get the beer that I ordered. I guess perhaps it was good but we'll never know.More

Great beers, and had great lunch out on the enclosed patio... my wife and I love this place! They have a really good selection of their own brewed beers... you won't be disappointed.

Passed through town and stopped in for a drink. Loved the pumpkin ale, so good! Sat at the bar, quick and friendly service. Bought a can to go.

Another place to buy local beers, but the service is slow and the food isn't as good as the average beer joint. This was once the site of the best restaurant in town. It isn't any more. Rarely found open, probably a victim of Covid.

I've read some reviews that say the Boondocks is noisy and crowded, but my advice is to choose the right time to go. In these days of Covid and the avoidance of restaurants, my husband's and my habit of eating an early dinner at 2...or 3 pm has given us perfect timing in restaurant visits. Eating early is great for not feeling stodgy in the evening by over eating and it works really well for avoiding crowded restaurants. Now on to the food - I had the pot roast with mashed potatoes and green beans and the food was very tasty, although overly salty to me. I need to remember to ask the kitchen not to salt my food, although I suspect the saltiness was cooked into the gravy so maybe that might not have helped me. But the mashed potatoes were some of the best I've every had. My husband had the fish and chips and said they were excellent, in fact the best he's had in years. The fish was crispy with great flavor in the bread and was not watery like some other fish and chips he's had - this fish was very firm. The fries were hot and crispy. They were accompanied by cole slaw. He also had a bowl of the buffalo chicken soup which he liked. The price came to about $35 which is not unusual for a tourist town like West Jefferson.More

My husband and I both ordered the grilled meatloaf, with mashed potatoes, & green beans. The waitress was knowledgeable regarding my need for gluten free; and, suggested some items, including the meatloaf (made with oatmeal). Good flavor; and, no allergic reaction. Husband also sampled some...brews. Recommend.More

Great place in downtown West Jefferson. Our first time in this area and decided to stop by for lunch. From the time we stepped through the front door until we left the service was amazing. They might have been short staffed, but you couldn't tell....Had a coupke of there craft beers and found them to be tasty. I had the Meatloaf plate, and enjoyed it. Wife had the Boondocks burger and said it was well prepared. Another couple that was sitting beside us also complimented on there meal. And try the Jalapeno bottle caps. This is a must stop when in West Jefferson.More

First of all, the staff was friendly. That is where the three star review comes from. Now for the food…. The food was somewhat bland and dry. Me and my wife and two daughters ate here for my oldest daughters birthday. My oldest daughter had...a fish sandwich, I had a hamburger, and my wife and other daughter split a hamburger sandwich. With drinks for the 4 of us, the total bill was just over $50.00. Wow……More

Actually on our two weeks in the area, we visited Boondocks 3 times. The first was just to enjoy their beer, then dinner with family including 2 children and a dog, and the final was dinner as a couple. On the visit with the family...we dined in their covered patio. Our waitress was terrific with children and dog. Food was good but must admit no one was overly thrilled with dinners. The fried fish sandwich and fish and Chips were frozen fried fish. On our final visit the only reason we returned to was it was basically one of a couple restaurants open Monday night. Big surprise!!! The meatloaf was homemade and DELICIOUS! Their pot roast was terrific, too. Waitress was very good and helpful. After the prior disappointing meals, we were thrilled with this dinner. Glad we returned.More

We were BLOWN AWAY by the staff, food, and service tonight! While waiting in their amazingly dog-friendly park area for our table, the very friendly George suddenly approached us with a HUGE bone-shaped treat. He said it was made in-house with pumpkin and other natural...ingredients and asked if it was okay to give to our dog..we were THRILLED to say "yes, of course!" 😍 We were so lucky to coincidentally also get George as our waiter afterwards. He was so personable and attentive. When he found out I have unusual dietary restrictions (vegan + gluten free/celiac disease), he went above and beyond to connect me with a fellow staff member Rachel who has similar dietary needs. I hadn't even forewarned them that I'd be coming, so I didn't expect this level of service 🤪 Rachel came to our table all smiles and gave some awesome suggestions. After hearing her knowledge and experiences, I trusted her so much and asked if she could just put in her own favorite order for me, which she DID, and she also put in our other orders too, even though she wasn't our waiter. She was SO sweet and said hi to us several more times throughout the night. When George brought our food out, he had taken it upon himself without any suggestion from us to follow celiac precautions, as to not cross-contaminate the food. We never requested this, and I was so impressed he had the thoughtfulness to do it regardless. The food was TERRIFIC for both me and the normal/meat eaters. I literally ate my bowl clean 😆 While we were finishing our meal, a waitress who wasn't in our area suddenly came over to us to give another house-made treat to our dog! Our dog was attacked 3x last summer, became super skittish, and is brand new to dining out. The extreme kindness of the staff tonight REALLY helped him out. He's trying to become a therapy dog, and these positive experiences for him mean the world for us. This is exactly what's rehabilitated him ❤️ If I could rate for 6 or 10 or 100 stars, I would. I stopped here for dinner around 6pm on a Saturday night. I was told the wait was 45 minutes, but I could sit at the bar which I did. Quite a few beers on tap. Service was fairly quick. Chicken salad wrap and onion rings...were good.More
