I appreciate the fact that people can purchase baked goods at Winkler's without having to pay the tour fee that Old Salem charges. We have already done the tour (which is great to do once or twice), but every time we visit Winston-Salem, we have to go to the bakery and buy sugar cake and Moravian cookies. They have lots... The baked good at Winkler Bakery are authentic and delicious. This is a very popular stop for visitors of Old Salem so expect lines in this small place, or expect much of the goods to be sold out by afternoon, so go earlier than later. The apple strudel and sugar cake are wonderful, soft, aromatic, sweet. They offer an array... More

If you want the real thing, you have to go the Winkler Bakery in Old Salem. The Moravian cookies are the thinnest cookies you will ever eat and you will eat a bunch. The breads are wonderful. If you have a long walk to your car, the cookies will be gone before you arrive at your ride. Accept no substitutes.... More

Wow! The Orange/cranberry and ginger cookies are the best! We bought a freshly baked loaf of rosemary garlic bread. It was delicious!

If you go early, you'll see the bakers at work. Pastries and bread for sale as well as Moravian cookies. Delicious!

Although the line can be long and the bakery is small, the baked goods are excellent. Their ginger cookies, apple strudel and rosemary bread were our favorites.

Went on a Monday which is not a good day if you want to experience the wonderful smells of a working bakery since they don't bake on Monday. Still enjoyed several variations if their thin and crisp Moravian cookies. Wanted some of their fresh bread, but to no avail. Oh well, another day.

Some bakery items such as bread and sweet cakes are baked on site, but the popular gingerbread and sugar cookies are baked offsite. This is one of the most popular places to visit in Old Salem.

We loved the sugar cake and pound cake samples, all food, but the place is super crowded. There is no room to move in or about the store. Someone always bumping into you , no room to look at the merchandise. This would prevent me from going back.
