Absolutely disgusting! A small soup $6.99 (3/4-1 cup) and a large soup $10.99 (1 1/2-1 3/4 cups). They served it with dry, very thinly sliced bread. Served in bowls that almost took your appetite away just looking at them wondering how clean are these dishes. Do I sound bitter? We are on a tour with 48 people and I have... More

The restaurant is an interesting idea by bringing you back to the settlers time. However the food was pricey and service was not very attentive or friendly.

There are 2 'restaurants' within the Fortress of Louisbourg - Hotel de la Marine, which is for upper-class folk, and Grandchamps, which is for the lower classes. Lower class sounded like much more fun to us! You are seated at communal long tables, so you get to meet other patrons. It really is an experience, not just a meal. We... More

We came back to the Fortress of Louisbourg twice in one season just to sample the food at this fantastic tavern. The savoury dishes are simple yet exquisite. Mussels to pea soup to meat pies paired with good ale or rum punch. The staff are fun yet professional. Order to apple tart to start! Check out their menu online to... More

While in the forteress, you hate to experience traditional 18th century food and athmosphere. Excellent food, good and friendly service.

Okay, it is 1740 and food is served simply and quickly. Sharing a table with strangers gives you a chance to meet someone new. And the only utensil is……a spoon. A rather large spoon. Dig in.

We only had a short time before our guided tour, but the waitress was exceptionally helpful. The fish soup was like nothing I had eaten before, but I hadn't eaten in an 18th Century tavern before. It was quite substantial and tasted really good.

We ate at Grandchamps for lunch. There are only two restaurants inside the Louisbourg Fortress and this one is for the "lower class" citizens. We decided to eat here because the "upper class" restaurant does not serve a vegetarian option. We were welcomed at the door and seated at a large table with another couple. There are no individual tables... More

Nice variety of traditional style meals. The cod dinner was terrific (and I'm not a fish fan). It's a fun environment with table sharing among diners. Service was quick and as always at Louisbourg, bilingual. It's a memorable experience when at the fortress.
