I have been a summer resident of Chester for most of my life. Every year when I arrive I first have to have a Sea Side Shanty meal - then I feel that I am in Chester! I especially love the lobster roll & chowder, but everything I order has been wonderful.

Our friends live in Chester, NS and every time we go visit, we have to go to the Seaside Shanty for dinner. The restaurant has an inside and closed in outside deck right on the water. It is hard to believe that the food coming out of such a small kitchen can be so great. The staff and owner always... More

Lobster chowder was thin and weak on lobster, and still for $22. ! This is not good. The place seems to be going downhill from its previous servings. It WAS blammo for lobster chowder. Not any more apparently.

Quaint location. Recommend the outer screened in room overlooking the water. Delicious food and great menu choices. Cheery atmosphere, very Maritime hospitality!

Wonderful view overlooking the water. The service was great and the food excellent. Love the chowder. The new owners are doing a wonderful job and keeping up with the tradition.

My wife and her deceased husband had been here 20 years in the past (We live on west coast) and he swore to his dying day this was the best seafood chowder anywhere, so we had to stop when we came to the area again. I had the lobster and seafood chowder. She had the lobster chowder. He was right.... More

Visited this place for dinner the other night with some friends. The last trip my wife and I did to the Maritimes we were testing seafood chowder virtually everywhere we went and this was our favourite chowder place. We had heard the ownership had recently changed and were relieved to find that the chowder was equally as good as it... More

We stopped for dinner and were seated at a table overlooking the water. The gentle breeze made the warm evening so pleasant. The haddock dinner we had was excellent. We were too full from dinner to indulge with dessert but the coffee was great! This has become a favorite place for us. Don't fail to stop in for a great... More

Call ahead. We seen such good reviews online that we decided to go... was a long drive and there was a sign on the door that said it was closed until further notice. This will not stop us from wanting to try it but we would never drive there ( quite a distance) without know if they are open... and... More

Love the setting, neat atmosphere. I get that it is a seasonal business, but still overpriced. Nice menu selection. I generally really love seafood chowder, but this version was very meaty like it went through a blender. Not very creamy. Nothing like McKelvies. Wish them the best, but we won't be back.
