Just had a lovely lunch here - food was delicious and service was brilliant (squeezed us in and took our order for 2 before a much larger booking ) however would have appreciated a heads up on the 15% surcharge,a little excessive and disappointing that no mention was made of this until we queried the bill. Just a sign on... More

My wife and I celebrated a wedding anniversary at this location having lunch on the Wharf. It was an added bonus that it was the Wooden Boat Festival. We made a booking here after checking out their website and lunch time menu on the site. We both found dishes that we wanted to try and were looking forward to the... More

This place used to be a joy to go to - now it caters for people who are prepared to pay large sums of money for very little food! A pity as it is in a commanding position down on the Goolwa Wharf with a great view showing the Hindmarsh Island Bridge and all the happenings on the river. Owners... More

Sitting outside facing the water watching a lone Pelican glide up and down we enjoyed excellent crispy salmon seafood dinner with fine white wine . It was very pleasant and relaxing. Friendly service. A quiet way to end a busy week. We will call in again when next in Goolwa.

Friends and I revisited Hector's for a light lunch with high expectations after previous visit. Waited several minutes to be seated - got the 'am-too-busy-to-attend-to-you just-now' look. Ordered chowder and the daily special of smoked salmon tart - both entree sizes. Chowder set as it cooled - filling but disappointing (lovely ciabatta). Tart was tiny - delicious but only 2... More

Just picked up the phone wanting to try the local eatery after a day in the garden at our holiday home . Duck spring rolls were lovely crispy and tender. Salmon cooked perfectly. Chicken roulade had a lovely balance of herbs. Staff super friendly. We will be back

Had a fantastic lunch at Hectors. We had the seafood platter for three. Highly recommend and well worth the price.

Simply delicious. We ordered Prawn Ceasar salad and King Prawn pasta, both were fresh and tasty. The Food of the Gods dessert certainly lived up to its name - amazing!

Last weekend at Goolwa, we returned to Hector's Cafe for a light lunch, having previously enjoyed the food.I chose the seafood and potato chowder. The chowder was magnificent! You could see the fresh pieces in it, full of flavour and not over salted and gluggy like some chowders. Frankly, I have never tasted better. The toasted bread/brusetta (not familiar with... More

Hectors On The Wharf is a cafe bar overlooking the Murray River in Goolwa, South Australia. The establishment itself is uniquely positioned on the historic Goolwa Wharf, and is accessible not only by foot or car, but by boat as well. The name of the cafe comes from a local historic character called Hector, who was a fisherman on the Coorong and lived on a wooden boat by the Goolwa Wharf for more than 40 years.

Hectors on the Wharf is open for breakfast and lunch every day, and dinners on Friday Saturday nights during the warmer months of the year. The menu uses local produce where possible, and boasts a fantastic array of fresh, beautifully prepared seafood. Thats not to say that you should be discouraged from ordering other items off the menu, which include gorgeous salads, pastas, burgers, and a selection of specials that are frequently changed depending on what is seasonally available. Our menu also provides for special dietary requirements and our kitchen staff will do their best to cater for your needs.

The restaurant is fully licensed and stocks a range of local wines, beer, and spirits. Though primarily promoted on Friday nights our cocktail menu is functional throughout the week. You're very welcome to bring a bottle of wine along to compliment your meal though this will incur a corkage fee.

Don't fancy a meal? Hectors has a range of delicious cakes and biscuits available and has a reputation in Goolwa for having the best coffee in town!

Though it isn't necessary to reserve a table during the summer period it is recommended because of the busy nature of the cafe. We are also available for private functions. If you would be interested in booking Hectors for an evening please call us and speak to one of our friendly staff.
