My husband and I enjoyed a truly special evening at he Zoar Canal Tavern. The building is an historic treasure and the food was outstanding! I was served the very best schnitzel I have ever eaten in North America! The atmosphere was warm and lovely and the service outstanding! We will be back!

Friendly staff and owner. Food is wonderful with numerous selections. Canal Tavern also has a bar. Seating outside in warm weather. Restaurant is away from noise and traffic, just off the towpath and just outside the center of historic Zoar. Check out the wine cellar with its curved brick ceiling! You cannot go wrong eating here.

Visited on 2/11 for the 1st time however , others in our party have been there before . There was 7 in our party. I had the French chicken it was ok , loved the doubled baked potato. Not really worth the price . And the piece of pie I ordered was a joke I am pretty sure it was... More

My wife and I visited for brunch on a Sunday. A quiet and quaint historical place to dine. The sticky buns were awesome as well as the omelets. The prices were good as well as the service(the waitress was knowledgeable and helpful), we now have eaten lunch and brunch at the tavern and are already planning on going back for... More

Would recommend a reservation, only got in because of a no show. Great historical building, great menu ( I had the pork loin and my husband had the chicken schnitzel - we would recommend both). The water and anything with ice is awful... the sulfer taste making it un drinkable! They have no bottled water and seemed completely oblivious to... More

Thank you for your visit and feedback. We are glad that enjoyed your food and atmosphere and appreciate your comments about our water. Unfortunately we are on a well that requires treatment to remove the "sulphur/iron" taste and for some reason it must not have worked properly during your visit. Your review is a good reminder for us to check... More

The drive here starts you relaxing, then the old, authentic, historic beauty surrounds you. This place has a beautiful setting. Our food was really good but for some reason, the service was a little rough. We were seated outside and there was live entertainment that night, so maybe that is partly the reason. I think the staff needs to pay... More

Had a wonderful dinner at Canal Tavern of Zoar Friday night! Jon was so helpful to accommodate our last minute reservation and we enjoyed fantastic service by Brandy! My husband had the Pork Chop and he said it was the best ever! I had the meatloaf and it was unique and very good! The portions are large, our food came... More

Based on the reviews as high expectations for the meal in an old canal building. The building lived up to the expectations, not the meal. Came to the restaurant on a Sunday to have the option of brunch or the grill menu. The wife had the daily special prime rib strata - good flavor but no prime rib in her... More

We have frequented this place twice. The first was very good. I believe we had crab cakes and seafood bisque. We were very pleased. However, the last time we were we were very disappointed. The chicken was overcooked and dry and my husband's scallops were not at all what he had hoped. They did not meet his expectations. For the... More
