We had lunch at e Chequers today and came away disappointed... Usually we have the lovely pretty girls serving us! However today we had the spray tanned guy serving us ... we ordered chicken liver parfait to share- when he brought the plates he used his fingers to scrape something off one of the plates before putting them on the... We visited Chequers Inn for a 70th birthday party, of 15 people. From the moment we enquired until we left, everything was fantastic. They arranged the private restaurant for us, which was cosy and atmospheric, with candles for a cold winter's day, and it was perfect for our needs. Because we had several vegetarians, they gave us a special menu... More

Although this is a foodie pub, the draught ale is superb. This pub has a nice feel, very welcoming and relaxed. The food, the wine and the service are all excellent. Value excellent too.

Lovely old pub, nice lighting but that's were the good ends, was grunted at by the staff. was not welcomed at all, but managed to get over this. We ordered the beef and sorry to say it was tough and completely tasteless like chewing the sole of shoe ! And to be fair the portion sizes for the price is... More

We want to thank all the lovely staff for giving us excellent service, lovely, well presented food and an all round pleasurable experience. We had not booked and were lucky to get one of two tables left. We were made to feel very welcome and I mentioned it was my friends birthday this week, the waitress presented her with a... More

The restaurant has a great atmosphere and a superb menu. There is a great variety of choice, and not too badly priced. It is truly a culinary experience for the area and I would thoroughly recommend

Lovely old pub - Sunday roast beef lunch distinctly unimpressive - tough and tasteless. Salmon starter excellent, although pricey for such a small portion. Also felt £23.00 for a bottle of Limit was over the top - I suspect this place is using is closeness to the abbey, and has become something of a tourist trap. Such a pity....

We dropped in for Sunday lunch after visiting Battle Abbey. All the tables were laid out - reserved - which shows how popular it is. They were able to accomodate us round the back where they were a couple of tables. Large platefuls of roast lunch. Service was very good and very attentive. Harveys on tap. Works for me

Description
At Chequers we aim to provide a new way to dine, a relaxed vintage atmosphere, exciting rustic British food and a classic British bar.

With our chefs locally sourcing ingredients from only farms that we have firsthand knowledge of, foraging for those special ingredients that are forgotten on menus today and preparing every dish to let the flavours of each ingredient excite the taste buds exactly how they should.
This all mixed with our excellent wine list of classic and some very unusual great wines, and a classic British bar, we hope that once enjoyed you will just want to keep coming back.
