Friendly, helpful staff, well kept Doombar, doorstop generously filled sandwiches, open fire for a slightly chill day. Would be happy to go again.

The lamb was generous in portion size, tender and completely & utterly delicious!! My parents shared the Chateaubriand which was cooked... More

Popped in for lunch, service a little slow to start and some other customers jumped right past us as we were waiting for a member of staff to seat us but from thereafter it was pretty good. Nice menu with lighter options. Was very busy but this meant there was some atmosphere.

We used to go all the time and found owners friendly and food fantastic. ...after a while of not going due to health reasons ...we agreed to meet our friends here for an evening meal...arrived and told to wait as table not ready....waited for approximately 35 mins and then ushered to our table.....we waited and chatted amongst ourselves....after a while... They employ a real chef! The food is wholesome, delicious and good value for money, the menu offers a good choice. There was a more mature lady serving and a number of younger ones, The more mature lady was excellent, bu the younger ones were barely satisfactory, we were even presented with a bill which had only been half printed, perhaps... Really hearty lunch. The sandwiches are a meal I themselves. The fish finger sandwich is actually massive pieces of battered haddock. Lovely homemade tartare sauce too. Friendly service and lovely atmosphere.

Description
The Phoenix is a historic and magnificent building in a prime location, with a large car park and a beautiful, peaceful garden. The food is simple, fresh, as much as possible local. Andrew Ryder, chef proprietor is passionate about provenance and seasonality. The menu changes frequently, to allow for seasonal favourites. The service is friendly and informal, staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. There is always a good selection of real ales and the extensive wine list suits all tastes and pockets.
