On arrival the place looked cosy, staff gathered round the end of the bar not acknowledging us for a good few minutes, then the manager rudely spoke to her staff and told him to serve us. The dining area was very quiet for a Thursday evening, we were sat in a little corner out of the way which had no... More

My first visit here for about 15 years. Parking right outside. Lovely looking place and in good condition. A couple of open fires and the place was warm and cosy. Take a map if you need the toilet as it is a maze. I was served in good time and a lovely choice of beers for me. My only down... More

Beautiful setting, lovely inside, service and food very disappointing. Sharing Platter for 2 came (we ordered 2 as there were 4 of us) with just one portion of butter on each. Steak Pie had just 4 small pieces of steak, few mushrooms (I think) and a sprinkling of gravy. Shepherds Pie, watery, tasteless and a very minimum amount of meat.... More

i was initially uncertain about eating here after i had heard mixed reviews however my mind is made up... the food here is incredible. set in an old world feeling pub with open fires and wood beams it is a beautiful environment to enjoy food and drink with friends or family

Booked for Sunday lunch on arrrival we waited 5 mins to be seated as it appeared they were short of staff. The service was polite but very slow the restaurant was busy but only 2 staff visible and organisation seemed haphazard. It was a great shame as the food was excellent, but perhaps I would think twice before returning

We go to this pub a lot and are generally pleased with the food and service. Been in twice recently, once in a couple and today in a large group. Service and food generally good (my colleagues particularly liked the fish cake and pizzas), however, somewhat inconsistent. The burger is very good but sometimes comes with salad garnish(as in the... More

The worst dining experience ever!!!!! The manager was a complete arrogant slob popping out for cigarettes! It was cold as they had no heating on. We had to ask for drinks service after 25 minutes. The staff were complaining about each other really professional!!! We ordered a shared platter which came with no plates and when I asked they came... More

I visited the white lion in Oct with friends and my partner and we love the white lion. The pub is cosy and quirky and there is a great outdoor seating area if it's warm enough. Menu is good and not particularly expensive. The food is edging in being fancy rather than just good hearty pub food which I think... More

Surprise 50th birthday meal for my brother for which I flew from Canada. 6.30pm Friday reservation - 1.5 hrs to get food, which was horrible, The steak was like old rubber, fish and chips were soggy. Waiting 20 minutes for drink refills. All around appallig service and awful food. Yes, they compensated my steak as it was inedible, but other... More
