This restaurant is situated in the heart of Stone, right next the a canal which draws in a variety of clientele from all over. The ambiance and music work well along with the decor to create a real American dining experince! The menu offers a vast variety of delicious and mouthwatering choices, from tasty starters to authentic, flavorsome mains and delectable deserts. The variety of choice caters from little ones right through to those with a little more dining experience! I had the pork slider starter and my husband the hot wings, both dishes were extremely delicious and were the perfect size, offering really good value for money. To follow we had the beef short rib and Santa Monica burger, they were both exquisite. Perfect cuts of meat that were tender and juicy, we're talking meat falling off the bone perfect.! We sampled the 'Big Truck Driver' and 'Kool Aid' cocktails, which complimented our experience marvelously! All food was fresh, made to order and very good value for money. The service was fab, all orders taken with a smile and recommendations for dishes and food were provided. All in all, an excellent experience, which I would highly recommended and we will be sure to return. Thank you to all at S&R !

Fantastic lunch

We went for a lovely belated Valentines lunch. I have a dairy allergy and sometimes get nervous about eating out however service here was nothing short of fantastic. Kai was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and what they could offer/adjust and even spoke to the chef about making an alternative sauce for my steak. They made me a lovely gravy as well as adjusting the recipe of the greens side and the wings starter to ensure they were safe. It was all cooked and presented very well. Service superb. Would definitely recommend and will be coming again! Thank you team.

Just when you think it can’t get any better……

We have been visiting this restaurant ever since they opened and find it difficult to find another place to come near for flavour, value and quality. We have been happy to dine in on their fantastic takeaway food during the lockdown which was great and we have visited a few times since the lockdown and can honestly say that it is the best food and drink by far in Stone and surrounding areas. Everything is top quality and unique to Smoke & Rye including the fantastic sauces all apparently home made. The cocktails are to die for, as are the choice of bourbons. My favourite meal is the beef rib as the meat falls apart and melts in the mouth. The music is always great and the staff friendly. It’s so good to come to a place where we know we are being served food cooked from scratch with quality ingredients which makes a great change. On out last visit I heard someone complaining about the wait for food but I don’t think they realise that when food is done to this level, it can’t be rushed and if you’re in a hurry, go to McDonald’s lol. Well done for complying to COVID rules and coming back better than ever.

I visited tonight to order a take out and I am so glad I did. The way the place is set up makes you feel at ease, track and trace all in place, tables appropriately distanced and sanitiser on the tables and at the arrival door. I was greeted by a lovely smiley lady on the door that talked me through the take out process. Nothing was too much trouble for the team even when I asked for a portion Of a main as a side order It wasn’t a problem. I had beef ribs with collard greens the beef was tender and fell from the bone (literally) and chipotle Mac n cheese which you MUST order it’s a game changer! We also had chicken tenders, corn and waffles I could go on! Basically if you haven’t been you need to get yourself there ASAP. Thanks so much we enjoyed every mouthful and we’re already wondering what to order next w-end. 5***** on all accounts.

Just had a really good evening at Smoke & Rye. Up from London on a road trip, we are staying at a hotel up the road in Barlaston and were looking for somewhere to eat that was close by. It’s a lovely location - just next to the lock on the canal that runs through Stone. We really fancied something meaty and certainly found it. It’s a great place. The menu is inspired by tastes from the US and the burger and ribs we ordered were delicious. I love a good sauce and there is a good choice of in-house tasty sauces - one made with JD which was yummy! Great sides too and Cocktail and Wine Lists. We cannot give 5 stars as there was no true American Manhattan on the cocktail list!!!! But I think there may be soon! Menu is changing soon too, so I look forward to seeing the new choices. Service was excellent with great attention to detail. Lovely waitress who was very friendly but not intrusive. A great team! Also, we really enjoyed the music and heard some classic tunes we hadn’t heard for a while, ie Eagles and Lynyrd Skynyrd. You guys have hit on something a bit special and hope it works out for you. We wish you the best and will definitely be back next time we’re in town!

Hits the Spot!

Finally got myself to S&R since they reopened post-quarantine and tried their new call and collect counter service. Staff were pleasant and it was nice that you could see the chefs prepping your food in the background. The Nashville burger and Toffee Pit pudding were phenomenal and they advised me how best to reheat the dessert at home. Excellent service. Good selection of drinks readily available to takeaway too. All in all a must visit in Stone.

Visited today (a Sunday- outdoor) had a delicious meal for the 4th time in a matter of weeks. Food was great, service was good as busy until paying the bill. We were robbed!!! We put £20 and 4 x £10. The server came over to take a card payment and for the £57+ bill I said keep the change, only to have her come back and vet saying we put £10 to less down. This could not have been the case as rather then pay on card my daughter put £10x 4 down and I transferred her the £40 to her bank. My friend put the £20x We then put another £20 down, only to be told we took £10 back, we never had the chance too. Asked for the manger to be told, the sever was. She wouldn’t check the till and called us liars, finally spoke to the owner. We left leaving our details expecting the CCTV to be checked and will await the response. Feb lovely canal side place but if you are going, check your change as I’m far from Stupid, completely sober and defiantly didn’t get treated correctly!

My family and I visited the American themed restaurant in a recent break and we’d recommend anyone doing the same when they’re in Stone. It’s a great little venue that was busy on a Saturday night. There’s a lot of wooden tables and white tiled walls while a cracking soundtrack of rock hits plays in the background. The staff are polite and organised despite how busy it is. They managed to get the orders of the fussy kids down to a tee which was a relief. As a starter I went for a cheese fondue which was amazing. For main I went for a chicken and waffle dish. In keeping with the American theme the portions were massive. Two waffles. Two massive pieces of chicken. Fries. I was struggling to finish it but gave it a good go as if it was some sort of Man vs Food challenge. The taste of everything complimented each other in a good way. We had to wait a bit for our food but it was well worth it. The only drawback is that we could only see a single toilet for men and one for women. In the event of the restaurant getting busy you could well be waiting around. With the quality of food on offer and the service offered by the staff it will be busy for quite some time.

Can't Find A Place To Compare

We have been to several restaurants since their re-opening and have been very disappointed with most of them due to poor service and dire food. However, we have been to Smoke & Rye a few times and realised that if we want real food, lovely surroundings and music, we just need to head there every time. We cannot fault the place and the food never disappoints and is so tasty, we are spoilt for choice. The work that must go into getting food so tasty must be immense and they deserve to have such a busy place. Keep up the good work and we will be back soon!

Appalling service

We went as a group, service was very poor. Staff were friendly but when we asked how long food would be we were told there was a delay. Had to wait a long time for food to be brought out sides etc( not all brought together ) it felt very unorganised. Overall the service was appalling but could tell the staff were short. Portions were huge couldn’t finish it. Some of my main was cold.

I'm staying at a hotel nearby for work and walked into town to find somewhere to eat. I'm so glad I came across this beauty! The burger I had was amazing! Packed full of all the things it said it would be, rather than the usual small portion you get in other restaurants. The food is reasonably priced for the quality and quantity you get (I'm usually one to always have a dessert but just couldn't fit one in!) the waiting staff were all lovely and the service was fantastic. The outside seating by the lock is really nice too. I will definitely be back when I'm next up here for work and will recommend the place to anyone else I know coming to the area!! I'd give more than 5 stars if I could.

Best meal in Staffordshire

We have just had our first Smoke & Rye since the re-opening and it was 100000% worth the wait. Never had an issue with the food, the staff are always welcoming and attentive and there is always a fantastic atmosphere whatever day or time we visit. The takeout menu, whilst reduced, still allows a great variety of choice (including my favourite - the Chipotle Mac n Cheese!) and the health and safety measures in place are superb. We will be returning again! And again And again And again.

Once great but now just really average

This has been our go to restaurant on the Christmas relative run to Staffordshire. We have always thought it was fantastic. This is our first post COHVID visit and sadly it’s crown has slipped. I have always told friends and acquaintances of the fabulous Pub that does the most incredible burgers but I am not sure that will now be the case. The rooms were freezing cold and the radiator,s barely warm, Stiff upper lip engaged to the menu which has shrunk in size and the dishes which made it a stand out place are gone. It’s now large plates or small plates One burger , one style of rib and one steak. We asked the Waiter about the menu he did not have a “scooby” about any of the dishes. The waitress was really good and very friendly. Staff were talking about customers “oh I thought they would be small plate people” regarding a group near to use which seemed a little unnecessary Food came burgers were OK but not the “smoked” juicy stunning pieces of meat we remembered . Fries were nice Pecan pie a great recommendation from the waitress the cheesecake felt a bit “store brought” So overall as a quick fuel stop it’s ok at £16 the burger was just not worth it which is a shame as it use to be well worth the money but on this visit it did not cut the mustard which is a shame.

Lockdown valentines

So its valentines and you want to take your wife for a meal but you cant.... Well Smoke and Rye have the best possible option, valentines box tonight for me and the wife has been phenomenal. Soooo much food for a spectacular price, they even have drinks covered, because you cant buy alchohol from them they smashed it by adding syrups mixers, all you have to do is add your own bourbon and boom you have your own authentic cocktails. Seriously if you have not been here you need to go. Highlights for me in my box tonight was the gritts battered catfish. The chicken tenders, the truffle mac and cheese, beef shortrib and babybacks. The beer and cheese soup was a whole next level of class aswell. Honestly feel like ive had a night out, to the guys and gals at S&R thank you again for making lockdown bearable and having passion for amazing food.

Decided to eat here for the first time. Ordered a Goose Midway and it was awful although after complaining the replacement was ok. Both on the menu and on the waitress" lanyard you are encouraged to leave a tip. I don't need to be told to tip, I will tip if the service is good. Went to pick up the napkin and half had stuck to the table as had the menu stand and the glasses. Although the food was very good, this experience was reminiscent of a sticky table pub. A voluntary carbon free dining subsidy was automatically added to the bill. Tips and subsidies should be earned without the need to be treated as almost compulsory
