After deciding on a visit to Petworth House, also recommended we decided to book The Horse Guards Inn, a must to book as very popular even mid week. The staff are friendly and very welcoming, a good choice of real ales, wines by the glass and comprehensive menu but not over the top. Starters of Mackerel Pate and Pigs head... More

Nice little pub, food was lovely presented. Service was very good, nice atmosphere and would be perfect in the summer.

My wife and I went for dinner this evening. Nice pub and friendly staff. Unusual items on the menu. I had pigs head brawn and my wife sprats to start and then the artic char and bouillabaisse as mains. All very nice. Prices a bit above average but food is different. Only downside was difficulty with parking on the narrow... More

Found this pub after walking the dog round petworth park, absolutely packed for lunch on Thursday so we sat at the bar for a sandwich. Really interesting place and the food coming out looked great so it is understandable that they were fully booked. We will be back and possibly to stay over in one of the rooms on site

My boyfriend and I had stumbled across the pub in the summer, and having only had time for a drink, decided we definitely wanted to come back for a meal, so when it came to booking a Valentine's dinner, the horse guards inn was our first choice! We were not disappointed, the staff were so attentive and friendly from the... More

Such a popular pub that I think booking is necessary - we came on Thursday and the place was packed. We were taking a friend for lunch on the way to the Turner Exhibition at Petworth and because it is so cosy we almost wished that we didn't have to leave. The food as usual was delicious and our friendly... More

Lovely lunch by the fire on a cold chilly February day. Amazing food, yummy meatballs, pakora and soup...great service from a genuine and enthusiastic hipster team in the middle of conservative Sussex. Amazing food, lovely place great decor and really up to the minute flavours and cooking style. They also have three rooms to stay which will be on my... More

Oh I love this place. I'm aware the last few reviews I've written have all been ridiculously positive. I feel like I should be writing a scathing review, slating the food and slagging off the staff just to make my contributions more even. But really, this pub is the pub of all pubs. I wish it was closer to where... More

A longstanding favourite, which it will remain. A very busy New Years Day so our table occupancy was limited to 2.5 hours. Not unreasonable but not signalled beforehand. A very well dressed pub with good food imaginatively presented. Try the tomato juice for theatricals! Our soup was ok but tepid and so sent back. Replaced willingly but still not hot.... More

This is my 4th time visiting the beautiful and quirky Horse Guards Inn. My boyfriend received a voucher for a nights stay and a meal for his birthday which we decided to do yesterday. We arrived on a very chilly late afternoon and were met with roaring fires in every room and a buzzing atmosphere. Once again, all the locally... More
