About
Andina draws inspiration from the native culinary traditions of Peru, as well as from the contemporary cooking by some of Peru’s leading chefs. Owner Doris Rodriguez de Platt, collaborates with Andina’s kitchen team to develop a menu that celebrates her family’s Andean roots, interweaving the ideas and techniques of both Criollo and modern Peruvian cooking. Founded in 2003, Andina has emerged as one of the region’s leading Peruvian restaurants and continues to generate wide appeal within the food communities in and around Portland, and much further afield.

I hadn't been to Andina for a long time, and the menu has changed since I was there. Having lived in Peru during my diplomatic service career I fell in love with Peruvian cuisine. Having Andina in the Pearl District is a wonderful thing for that true Peru taste in food and drink. Although a bit pricey the food is wonderful and very authentic. My wife and I each had the ceviche mixto as an appetizer. I had lomo saltado for an entree and she had the gnocchi as hers. We topped it off with the strawberry sorbet. Oh, I forgot the carpirinhas as our cocktail. It's not a place to go for cheap food, and a budget item is probably a good idea, but once there you will want to return as soon as the budget allows.

Great food and a staff that can help you get the most flavor and taste options for a first-time visitor. We knew what we wanted for our main dish, but the server knew how we could try a couple of tasty appetizers to maximize our exposure to the menu and still have plenty to eat and enjoy for the meal. The service was fast and excellent, the menu had many options for all manner of tastes (and food restrictions if needed). A wonderful meal for "a night on the town"

This place was really good the first time we tried it about 15 years ago. Since they changed owners about 10 years ago it's kind of gone downhill since then. Don't get me wrong it's still a good restaurant and one of the better ones in Portland but, their quality control has really slipped and I can no longer justify paying their abusive prices for food that used to be good. Most of the items on my menu my wife makes anyway as she hails from Peru herself.

Our entrees were so over cooked my wife, celebrating her birthday, did not eat her dinner. The ribeye steak was supermarket quality not worth ordering and the lamb was old musty tasting not the gamy funk you want. I believe the restaurant was having a bad night in the kitchen, However they should own up to it for there customers. I will not dine here again and I don’t recommend you take the chance either.

Short trip to Portland with young teens (who are awesome adventurous eaters and super easy to feed). We came to Andina upon recommendation of foodie friends and was only able to score a 5pm reservation, so we moved our day around to make this a priority - needless to say, we have high expectations and were super excited when we walked thru the warm earth toned decor. It’s our first time here so we didn’t know the layout of the restaurant. There is live music but we were seated on the other side (the wrong side) even thought there was ample empty tables for four. Worse, our table was tucked in a corner furthest from the windows, and even my teenagers had to hold up a phone light in order to see the food. The appetizers were great though portions small ($15 for one skewer that was three bites). We ordered the purple corn drink after seeing TA reviews and the flavour was interesting and. didn’t disappoint (but again, small). The entrees were so flat we were surprised and none among the four of us (again, hungry teenagers) would even finish the plate. The stir fry sirloin for instance tasted like a poor imitation of Chinese stir fry, the beef tough and flavourless, the fried potatoes soggy. The gnocchi too was bland and doughy. My paella (Arroz con mariscos) was an okay version of seafood paella in terms of flavour, but at least the shellfish, scallops and shellfish was fresh. That’s probably the only entree I would recommend. Sounds like Andina changed hands and had gone downhill (menu changed and they took out some of the long time favourites). Too bad we didn’t come here while they still had all the dishes that put them on the map in the first place. The server was visibly disappointed after hearing that we aren’t order sparkling water or alcohol - or the recommended appe’s; he did try to come back frequently to check on us. I commented that our table was too dark for us to even see our food (I had to hold up a phone to shine light onto the food the whole meal), and when I commented on the live music, he said it was unpredictable when they come (really!?) or which side of the restaurant they set up (doubtful)…. Very lame attempts to placate me. At these prices I’d give this restaurant a pass and save my money going somewhere else exciting such as Hat Yai (Thai). If you are coming, make sure you at least get a window by the table which has lamps above each table, or in the live music section.

The services and the desserrs were really good but the food and drinks not at all. The seco was good served cold. The lomo saltado is made with soy sauce, but for this restaurant it was made with a thick red super spicy sauce. I told the server about it and he said that people complained that it was too salty so they change the recipe. Im peruvian and I could say that a good lomo saltado is not salty if its is made the correct way. My husband just ate the meat because he was hungry but it was freaking spice. Also, the meat was not cook well and the prices are over priced. I wont come back again.

I dined at Andina during my first visit to Portland in 2003. My wife and I were blown away by the cooking. It was unique, hearty and delicious. One of the owners, a charming woman, stopped by our table to describe our dishes and her passion for Peruvian cuisine was contagious. We returned the next night for another gracious experience. What a difference 18 years make. This time I was in Portland with a friend, my wife back in Seattle. Our reservation was for 8:30, but we were abruptly told our table was not ready, and I would receive a text when we should return. Thirty-five minutes later, at 9:05, I received the text. The restaurant was crowded, but not full. David was our excellent server, and he took excellent care of us. Drinks were wonderful and strong, perfect aperitifs before our meal. Appetizers arrived and they were delicious and refreshing, representing the best of Peruvian cuisine. For an entreé, we ordered the lomo saltado, an iconic Peruvian dish. And we waited, and waited, and waited. Our server David repeatedly apologized, but our appetites disappeared. The lomo saltado finally arrived, but the meat was tough and the dish appeared haphazardly prepared. When we asked about dessert, we were told the dessert line had left, told to go home. It was close to 11:00, but we were compelled to wait for our table and wait and wait and wait for our lomo saltado. The manager came over and comped the lomo, but our meal was ruined, and even worse, so was my memory.

This restaurant went from one of our favorites, to a restaurant we don't even bother going into any more. Finally open after the start of covid-19, Andina appears to have gone even further downhill than before the pandemic. Take one look at the new menu and it is evident that they aren't even trying. All the tasty-looking items on the prayer reviews are no longer available and not even on the menu. I guess their outdoor patio restaurant that offers takeout is pretty good but, the indoor dining at the parent restaurant Andina just isn't worth the price tag.

So relieved that Andina made it through the COVID ups and downs. They are back and as great as before. Staff are very helpful and attend to guests like a five-star resort. They provide suggestions and accommodate food allergies. Food is excellent. and even though the menu is pared down during this pandemic, every item I ordered tasted amazing and was presented in a fun and stylish way. The sauces are so delicious. If you don't have reservations, sit in the bar lounge area. I prefer it when solo or a party of two. Great atmosphere and other diners are friendly.

We love everything about Andina. The food, the service, the ambiance, the music and the location. If you are in Portland, reserve and go! We always enjoy the creative scallop app and have trouble deciding between the chicken kabobs and the tuna entrees. Try them all. The wine list is well chosen ... and priced. We’ll be back on our next trip.

First of all, Andina has been in Portland for a long time. And that’s saying something for a restaurant. It has and will always be a true dining experience. The food is absolutely unique and goes above and beyond anything you would ever expect. So hard to do in such a big restaurant. I highly recommend going here!

Perfect place to go with friends to have little tastes of lots of variety. Once I was visiting California and a couple near me said they were going all the way to portland to just have lunch “at the best tapas place ever”. That says it all. Try a dish in each category. Their potatoes are amazing and don’t forget to order a drink.

The level bland, tasteless food, the amount of it & how everything, including the desert were crap. I mean, who even messes up a desert? The pionono was dry & just tasted of sugar. Rubbish. The mains, the chicken "with BBQ sauce" has bland by restaurant chicken standards, the gnocchi was pointless. The starters were insipid, plain & beige. When we complained we were given 2 $5 cookies (which weren't that bad), for a $200+ meal. The cocktails were good, but the terrible & hostile service knocks this down to a 1 star. There are so many amazing places for food in Portland, do not waste your money & time here. Overrated to the extreme.

Peruvian cuisine was new to my palate and I appreciated that the surprise travel agency I booked with made a reservation for me here. However, I didn't receive a warm welcome at all and was treated like a lower class citizen who didn't belong at this pretentious establishment. Fortunately, after I was shuttled off and seated at the bar, David (bartender/server) took great care of me, explaining the menu and describing some the dishes to me. The arroz con mariscos (Peruvian rice, shrimp, clams, scallops, mussels, calamari, fresh peas, peppers, pecorino) was delicious and very filling; large serving.
