You know, sometimes you take a risk and go into a place that has history and is a bit...sketchy...from the outside. We went with a party of 7 on a Friday night and got a table in a busy restaurant. One of our party was a native Chinese speaker and he ordered "off menu" and a few of us joined... More

I wish I could visit more than once a year. I am a sucker for the combo plate, but everyone in our party devoured their meal. Prices are reasonable.

Sorry. I go here for the food. It is consistently great. I wish I lived in Portland again so I could sample all the dishes, but it's only once a year for me, and I can't miss the barbecued pork and ribs ......and the portions are HUGE.

Being over 80 years old, the Republic Café & Ming's Lounge is Portland's oldest Chinese Restaurant. For a restaurant to survive this long, the food has to be good. The décor shows its age though, being somewhat dark and dingy and in dire need of a renovation. I highly recommend the ABC Salad, Fried Shrimp and Egg Foo Young.

Went to this place twice. Located in Chinatown, and is one of the oldest bars. Eric our bartender was great! The appetizers were great, and it has slots to keep you additionally entertained. Would definitely go back!

What is amazing about the Republic Cafe is not its food or decor but its longetivity. It is no where near the best of Chinese food in Portland, but it is certainly consistent. This restaurant, in Portland's Chinatown in Oldtown Portland is ancient. With a history back to the early part of the last century, you don't go here for... More

Hot & sour soup is excellent, and the large bowl serves 4. The Mongolian beef dish is very flavorful and filling. It also serves 2. This area is a little more quiet but for really good Chinese food, I highly recommend.

Located in the China Town section of Portland this old timey eatery hasn't been renovated in 50 years, at least it looked that way to me and our hosts have been eating there since they were children and both are pushing 70, but doesn't need to. Changing the decor would add nothing to the superior nature of the food. Typical... More

This was the one and only place that did not meet our expectations. The staff seemed like they could care less if we were there or not. Just kind of flopped everything on the table and when we ordered the waitress said is that all you want and since we were eating lunch we were eating light. The food was... More

We used to eat here many years ago and the menu is just as good as then but this place needs a renovation, everything is old, falling apart and does not look clean, the bathroom was a mess and dirty
