All in all we had a lovely night. The staff were attentive and the dinner very pleasant. I had the fish pie ($44) which was good but not quite what I expected. Probably wouldn't order it again. We all had the prawns for entree. They come unpeeled to enhance the flavours. Too messy for me. So again probably wouldn't have... More

After so much hype I found the menu to be your typical ordinary fancy restaurant menu with all the fancy names and prices. Location - stunning!! Our waitress was wonderful but the disappointment came when one of our desserts collapsed so they brought them out separately (yes hubby watches while I ate mine and I watched while he ate his)... We stayed at Bannisters by the Sea for 4 nights in February 2017 and enjoyed a full buffet breakfast each morning in their in-house Rick Stein restaurant – very attentive, polite and professional wait staff. The breakfast was delicious. Coffee and eggs were made fresh to order. However, the coffee and coffee service was a bit of a hit-and-miss. We... More

On short break holiday we decided to dine at Rick Steins Restaurant. The establishment is located at Bannister's by the Sea and the outlook and the ambience is excellent. We decided to try the signature dish being the fish pie, unfortunately this did not live up to our expectations. Our friends had the snapper and the battered fish. The snapper... More

This is place for special occasions, expensive but worth it. Stayed at the Pavillion so we were driven there and back so that was great. Only one option for non seafood lovers, but a good meal no less. Good service.

Great meal and friendly, informative service. Top quality produce with tasty flavours. Love the fresh herbs growing in large pots around the balcony.

We choose to go all out and feast as no idea when would be back again, if you are more local nice place to have smaller bite and still linger. Cons: tables bit too close together Pros: seafood! Partner chose mixed dozen oysters which were served on a proper bed of ice not rock salt. The locals declared better than... More

A great destination, fantastic Sommelier, good service and disappointing meal. Maybe we made the wrong choices from the menu but overall the food was disappointing and does not match the hype and marketing. Two nights later we went to "Tallwood" at Mollymook - this does not have the view and presentation - but - wow - the food was stunning.... More

The restaurant setting was beautiful with sea views, as was the decor. The food certainly exceeded expectations as did the service. The menu choice was extensive, making it hard to decide what to have. Thankfully there was also a children's menu which comprised of a couple of non fishy dishes, which pleased my non fish eating grandson, who had joined... More

We had tried to visit Rick Stein's restaurant in Padstow Cornwall but it was booked out. Hence a warning. If you are driving a long distance ensure your booking ahead here also. Our adventure started by being chauffeured from the Bannisters Pavillions to the restaurant by the Bannisters car. No alcohol driving limits. As starters we chose to share a... More

Our restaurant is a reflection of Rick's passion for seafood and the coastal lifestyle which he has enjoyed for most of his life. As he says: "nothing is so exhilarating as fresh fish, simply cooked". He believes that fresh seafood should speak for itself. While he enjoys occasional fine dining, his food is much more about what he really likes to eat: a plate of Clyde River oysters, a pot of Illawarra prawns with mayonnaise, a mound of spanner crab, a slice of blue eye or a perfectly grilled sand whiting. We like our service to be informal but observant and enjoy employing local people who may lack the total polish of fine dining restaurants, but who more than make up for it with a genuine welcome.Peter Bacon, General Manager
