Just happen to come upon this restaurant on our way thru the area. Had drive thru service. Great food got the steak and shrimp. It did have a lot of big veggies peppers and onions. Which I do not like but I eat the steak and shrimp out of it with the white rice and yum yum sauce. Was nice... More

We lived in Japan for two years and fell in love with the traditional seating and food... Now we've found that feeling here in Knoxville. Happy, happy!

We were entertaining business colleagues from Japan as we often do. This time we had the Corporate President visiting. East Japanese arranged a nice back room table with shoes removed, but dove for your lead to dangle....always a plus for us inflexible, old Americans. Haha! The food had been pre-ordered, so it just kept coming out in rounds again and... More

We have eaten here on several occasions. The service is horrible. This visit we were told not to even bother ordering sushi because of a large party before us. Do restaurants not usually feed large numbers of people at the same time? Her attitude was awful, not inviting at all. Not sure I care to return, no matter the quality... More

I did a search for ramen in Knoxville and East Japanese restaurant showed up at the top of the list so decided to stop by and try it. I got there a little before they closed before dinner and had the whole place to myself. Ordered the tonkotsu ramen, which I had never tried before, and I thought it was... More

This is THE place for anyone looking for Sushi! I have tried sushi in many restaurants in many countries including some good restaurants in Japan and can say without reservation that this restaurant serves the most tasty sushi ever. All the other food we have tasted at this restaurant are uniformly good as well (although the sushi options are still... More

Tried this restaurant for lunch and we were very happy with our choice. The menu is and interesting, many authentic dishes, not typical hibachi-style. We both had the combo box which allows you to select two dishes from a list of about 12, and is served with miso soup, salad and rice. We enjoyed the vegetable dumplings - very tasty,... More

Although the menu is quite good and extensive, we frequent the restaurant for the sushi. The rice has just the right texture. The fish is fresh and flavorful. I lived in Japan for four years and I think this is the best sushi restaurant in Knoxville.

Located in a strip shopping center, and unimposing , East Japanese is a gem and a pleasure. When I have eaten at East, the food has been spot on for flavor, and the service has been attentive. The sushi is quite good. I really enjoy the other menu items consisting of authentic Japanese comfort food. I became familiar with Japanese... More
